Ted, we expect better from you. It doesn't matter if you home is worth 10K or Ten Million, loosing your home is one of the hardest things that can happen to someone.

Very insensitive of you to say the least!

You might want to read a little bit closer next time.

(AP) MALIBU, Calif. A wind-whipped wildfire ripped across 10 acres in Malibu Monday, destroying 10 structures, including at least two homes.

That could be 2 homes and eight smaller outbuildings for all we know.

I read it completely different:

More than 300 firefighters responded to a blaze near West Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Ron Haralson. Winds were blowing at 21 mph when the blaze erupted about 5 p.m.
At least 10 homes burned and more homes are near the blaze, according to fire officials.

"In and around that area, (there are) quite a few homes," Haralson said.

Oh I'm sorry, I should have thought when I posted about the rich people who will be staying @ the Beverly Wilshire tonight instead of the Red Cross shelter.. yeah... really tough...  Yeah sure If they were so smart and they really cared about their stuff they would have invested in proper fire protection Or landscaped in a manner that would have reduced the chances of loosing their home. http://www.firesafecouncil.org/education/landscaping/

If my home burned down, I'd be at the Townsend Hotel http://www.townsendhotel.com/

But that wouldn't make my loss any less because I have money.

And you know they didn't make these investments how?

Well, the same link you posted that originally said 10 buildings including 2 homes how says 8 homes in one paragraph, and 12 homes in another paragraph.

The fault obviously lies with the link.

Since when have you had so much envy and hatred towards the rich? Are you becoming one of the those left-wing commies?

Malibu burns & slides every year.
I wish the best for the firefighters and hope no one gets seriously hurt or killed.

There's been lots of plane crashes where nobody has died, or even got injured. That A340 over in Canada (Toronto was it?) last year or so comes to mind.

Boo hooo.. one big airliner with a big insurance policy was lost. Like (*life) sucks doesn't it?

It isn't asinine at all. Brush fires and mud slides are part of everyday life in the foothills of Southern California. You build a house in a notorious fire and flood zone, that's what you should expect. It's no different from the rich homeowners who build on the Outer Banks and then whine about losing their homes in a hurricane.

Whenever someone loses their home, regardless of where they live or what their W2 reads, it's a tragedy and comments like Ted's are, indeed asinine.

You are cheapening real tragedy to equate losing a home built in a flood/fire/hurricane zone to situations where someone loses a home to an unexpected disaster or occurrence.

And it does matter how much wealth one has. For example, even though I think people who build their homes below sea level in New Orleans are crazy, I have a lot more sympathy for the poorer residents of the Ninth Ward than for the residents of Uptown.

I can think of someone who is pretty well off and rather famous who was devestated by a house fire. One of my all time favorite artist Tom Petty lost it all in a house fire back in 1987.
Some things money can't replace such as family photos, original master tapes, guitars that are made of woods that are now banned and electronics that you just can't get anywhere.
