Sigh, Another Pink Floyd Song Abused...

Tue Jan 09, 2007 6:12 pm

I'm zapping through the TV channels, and a techno beat song has a familiar sound to it. "Teachers leave them kids alone". Not again, I think to myself.

Eric Prydz (sp?) is behind this one. Not as bad as the time Scissor Sisters attacked and molested "Comfortably Numb", but this version still becomes rubbish next to the original "Another brick in the wall".

Whatever happened to making music without ripping someone off?

I quite like it... It makes a change from all the crappy "RnB" that seemed to be dominating the market.

Sure its a cheesy track but the remix works really well... I've also met Eric Prydz and he's a very nice guy, unlike Mylo who is a twunt...

No originality or imagination these days, especially with younger "performers." Maybe it's genetic.....or just plain laziness.

Same goes with movies. I think there are about 6 original plotlines in Hollywood (only 2 in Bollywood) and everything else is just a variation of those.

I do believe Eric Prydz contacted Pink Floyd with the request to use the song. They requested to hear the finished song and gave it their approval.

I must say, I don't really like it, although the video has a strong message.

I heard a horrible, just plain battered version of "Comfortably Numb" on the radio, and my god, it hurt my ears....And Radiohead did a pretty bad cover of "Wish you were here" IIRC.

Yep, that would be scissor sisters... (I have a feeling they only produce rubbish. Aren't they the ones in a video dancing around singing "I don't feel like dancing. No sir no dancing today"? Sums up pop music pretty well..)

Can't say I've heard that one. But I remember that Wycleaf (sp?) fella making a version of it. Fairly close to the original if I remember correctly, and seemed more like a tribute more than just an attempt to make easy money off their song.

So Europe has caught the fever of the hip hop and RnB too eh? Lucky you guys get videos of techno songs! All the videos we get in the states are teenage rock and hip-hop crap that unfortunately doesn't seem to go out of style. If not that it's spanish Reggeton which is just as annoying!

Is Mylo from Miami? All I've heard from him is that song "drop the pressure", and I have to say I liked it.

What's the name of that song by Eric Prydz where the video is an 80's aerobics class? Quite funny. The original 80's song was a lot better. Not a big fan of these discohouse remixes of classic tunes.

There was much better music to my ears than "grunge rock" so I didn't pay much attention to it back then.

Yet somehow it sounds so much better than whatever's on the radio now (here in the states anyway).

In my opinion, excluding OASIS, todays music is sh!te, complete meaningless rubbish, what happened to the days where groups sung with there heart and produced electrifying sounds that put us all on another planet?

I had heard about this on the planet rock website, and they just said, "all we can say is stick with the origional" that about says it all.

If singers/groups want to copy other musicians stuff let them, they will never beat the origional and also, they are too lazy to come up with anything and know that its gonna be rubbish anyway

I knew of this but this thread inspired me to go listen to it on Beatport for the first time. The beat is pretty good  biggrin  but the ABITW is more of a heavily used sample than a remake and IMO doesn't quite fit.

I find the 'Dub Mix' much better  rotfl  The Sebastian Leger Remix isn't too bad though  Smile

At the end of the day we are all entitled to our own opinion. At our work, a guys ringtone was that of the SS version of Comfortably Numb, and I said to him to get rid of that rubbish, he said no, I think its a great song, I was astonished at first but then thought, there are people who like it!

I personally feel that PF are the greatest band ever, everysong is different and brilliant in everyway, but that does'nt mean everybody has to think the same, one guy at work told me he thought that PF are the most overated group ever, their songs are rubbish!.

checkmark  I like ABBA just as much as the next person, but for VERY different reasons, the two can't be mentioned together in the same breath/sentence.

That said, it would be interesting to listen to "Dancing Queen" after a few acid hits...  biggrin

I recently acquired a Gold remastered version (by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs) of "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wish You Were Here". Absolutely amazing! I'm about 4 hours away from winning a Gold version of "Meddle" also.

Hehe, yeah that didn't sound good...

Although I must admit I've heard one or two gregorian chants that sounded ok.

In my opinion, excluding OASIS, todays music is sh!te,

And they had like 2 good songs? With lyrics like "where were you while we were getting high" ... the second coming of the Beatles oh yeah! rofl...

Any spanish-speakers here? There's plenty of quality latin rock groups and tunes from the 80s and 90s. Some had the dance/pop vibe similar to the european sounds of that era. Lyrically and musically superior to many stuff that was heard in the US and so much better than today's rock crap.
