UK Weather - Who's Got A Gale At The Moment?

Thu Jan 11, 2007 9:19 pm

After a very blustery, and wet, drive to work this morning (narrowly missing getting hit by some loose plastic rubbish containers in the road) it's pretty windy out where I work next to Barton. Anyone got it worse?

I'm doing some work over in Norwich today and it's really windy here. Earlier on at NWI the METAR's were showing 23030G45KT but it's calmed down now to 27024G34KT

looks like the worst affected area at the mo is LHR with 27032G47KT. At least it's blowing straight down the runways though  Wink

Yes! It was pretty heavy last night however at one stage it started hail stoning for about 5 minutes. That's when the winds REALLY hit my house hard! It somehow set our family car's alarm off! Waking up this morning, there were bins littering the streets  Silly

It was windy as anything in London all day, and even worse when I got back to Plymouth this evening. Nearly got blown into the Thames and I completely lost my newspaper, god knows where it ended up!

Gusts strong enough to shake a stone tenement block from time to time here. It's quiet at the moment, though.

Well, Whitburn (West Lothian) was hit very badly by heavy winds, we even had a storm last night, kept me awake all night. Our school roof started leaking today!  Wow! I don't know what the windspeeds were though. Blew open the fire doors which are locked at all times too! And because of the weather, we had a 3 second powercut!  laughing

Oxford (OXF/EGTK) was experiencing gusts up to 45kts earlier today - no flights were operating at all.

I'm up near Blackpool right on the coast and it's pretty frightening at the moment. There are major works here and a construction company is currently on the promenade rebuilding the sea wall to make it stronger. We have had one or two roof tiles come off too.

It's died down a bit here in Blackburn, still an occasional gust but it was bad last night. Trees down in a few places and a friend had a lucky escape when something was blown on to her windscreen and caused a chip and small crack. Not a nice time to be out and about, let alone flying!

I can imagine it didn't do the colour of the passengers underpants much good for the arrival back into PLH silly

I nearly took the flight up to London, but considering I eventually found a return train ticket for £50 (others were over £150) I didn't, plus the airfare was about £300, serves me right for booking late!
