I thought I'd say a couple of words about sex education in Mainland China.
Even though things are improving, sex-ed is still practically non-existing. When little kids ask their parents the old question ("mama where did i come from?"), it's customary for parents to tell them that they found the baby in a heap of garbage (!), and kept it. It's terrible, I know, but that's the reality. "If I had known you'd disappoint me so much, I would have thrown you away", is then often used to reprimand children.
, some of us in the West might have grown up with an equally prudish education. But we still have ways of finding out, right? Keep in mind those hardly exist in China. There's no real sex-ed in school, there's no pornography, no movies with sex scenes, and what have you. This leads to youngsters growing up with no knowledge about sex, and too often it results in very unsatisfying sex lifes. The concepts of foreplay, oral sex, the clitoris... still unknown in large parts of the Chinese society.
Another thing to keep in mind is that with sexuality being made an absolute taboo during Maoist rule, many Chinese today have little sense of what's acceptable sexual behaviour and what is not. I guess this comes into play with this mother; she probably had no idea that what she did was morally more than questionable.
So, while I agree that what she did was not a good idea at all (and it's entirely untypical behaviour for Chinese), you might want to refrain from calling her "sick" and "perverted"; not only is she from a different culture, more importantly Chinese morals and ethic standards are still deeply messed up, due to the Communist rule.
