Saints-Bears: Patriots-Colts.

Mon Jan 22, 2007 2:10 am

3 hours from kickoff for the NFC Title game as I type this, so it's time to lay it on the line, and see who ends up as the sideshow for all the commercials in Super Bowl 41.  Big grin

New Orleans Saints v. Chicago Bears, Soldier Field. Gametime weather conditions: about 30 degrees, with possible snow showers.

I'm gonna pick the road team in this one. I think the Saints are, easily, the most balanced team in the NFC. They are solid on both sides of the ball, and, despite having a good performance last week, Rex Grossman still scares a lot of people if the game is on the line. If it's close at the end, Mr. Brees, Mr. Bush and Co. will find a way to win it.

Saints 24, Bears 20.

New England Patriots v. Indianapolis Colts, RCA Dome. Gametime weather doesn't matter here.

The Pats have been the archnemisis for the Colts for years, and have frustrated Peyton Manning time and time again. The Patriots are one of those teams that play their best when it matters most.

But this time, I think it is finally Indy's year to take the next step. After being flogged late in the year by the run, the Indy D has stepped up big-time in the post-season, and have played physical, solid football. The Pats are coming off an emotional road win at San Diego Last week.

And wouldn't it be ironic if it came down to Adam Viniteiri once again-but this time winning it for the Colts?

Indianapolis 27, New England 23.

Your takes, your picks. Enjoy the games-unless you have a rooting interest, and then will suffer for 4 hours.  Big grin

Saints over the Bears. It shouldn't be close.

Colts over the Patriots in a squeaker.

Let's go for full irony: FG is blocked and run back for a Patriots TD as the clock ticks to 0:00.

Nice, a true first! I would have thought the DSF would show the games, but not the ARD.

My predictions:

New Orleans Saints vs Chicago Bears: 27-24
New England Patriots vs Indianapolis Colts: 35-15 (All Colts points will be field goals)

Sorry Peyton, not even Adam Vinatieri is going to bail you out of this one.

EDIT: Added score explanation.

Sorry, but if that Indianapolis Offense, especially Peyton Manning, doesn't start making touchdowns or start going for it more often than just settling for field goals or punts on fouth down, then this game will be an easy one for Tom Brady and the Patriots. NO vs Chicago, now that will be a close game to the finish. It wouldn't surprise me if that one goes into OT as well.

Some funny stuff, my folks are moving from Newport Beach to Laguna Beach today and have no cable (today) for the games. They plan on hitting up a pub for a bite and to watch some football...

That said...my Dad thinks that the Saints winning it all is a GOP orchestrated conspiracy theory that the NFL is getting money to let NO win it all.  rotfl

Credit is earned by performance. Manning has great stats, is a great quarterback, but in the long run, sports is about winning. Right now, he's getting what he's earned, nothing more nothing less.

Patriots 31 Colts 17

Bears 23 Saints 20

Superbowl Patriots vs. Bears

Patriots 17 Bears 7

Patriots win Superbowl

While I would like to see the Saints in the Superbowl, I am going with my gut instinct. Soldier field is a tough spot to play. As for the Pats, who can stop Brady in the playoffs?

Man, great play by Bush. Urlacher is really fast, he outran all his own secondary players. Great play ruined by Bush's lack of sportsmanship. You don't point back at the defense and dive into the endzone. Especially in the conference championship. The Bears are going to go after him hard.

I'm sure he was, but you just don't do that. He's a rookie, so I don't hold it against him too much, but he has to learn that that's not how you play the game.

Come on, these are not Kindergardener's here. Experience is not needed to know you don't show up the defense like that. 10 year veteran or rookie, that just plainly shows immaturity and a total lack of respect and sportsmanship for your opponent.

I'm amazed how Chicago pretty much destroyed NO today, even though Rex Grossman's passing accuracy wasn't so stellar. I thought it was a close one, and looked like it will be close after NO scored their two touchdowns, but then the bears went on to finish Brees and the Saints. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the Superbowl in 2 weeks.

Nobody down here's gonna be hanging their head.....a team that last year went 3-13 playing as nomads and practicing in parking lots showed the best improvement of any team in the history of the NFL and restored a ton of enthuasiasm and hope to a city and region that is still decimated.

Obviously there are a number of folks, both here on a.net and elsewhere, who are happy to see the Saints lose for reasons that in no way involve football.....whatever

To those of us Saints fans, especially those who live here, this season has been a hell of a ride.....but it's not a one-shot deal...the Saints will continue to be a force to be reckoned with next season and beyond.

The Bears have been a good team all year but nobody has given them any credit. Anybody see the pass plays by Chicago in the second ? Grossman is gaining confidence and will continue to play better.

My props to the Saints though. They have alot of talent and overcame tremendous adversity to go very far! I'm sure they'll be in it in the near future. If they weren't playing my Bears I would've been rooting for them.

The only things about the Bears are people wondering will Rex Grossman have a great game or not. Given what happened during the regular season people still express skepticism that he will actually play well in Super Bowl XLI.  Wow!

Of course. But that's what people seem to miss the point when it concerns the Bears. They have a good defense, they have good special teams, and they can have a good offense. The reason why they had thirteen wins and continue to win is that even when one portion of their team does badly, another one steps up and plays with heart to get the win. I think that they have a good chance at winning the Superbowl.

People have been skeptical about them all year but guess what they'll be doing in two weeks?

This game is a tough one. 'Nawlins could really use something good to happen in town. However, Chicago is a city full of the best people I've ever encountered while traveling in the USA and they've had quite a dry spell as well. I'm happy for Chicago, they deserve the championship. They're my pick for the SB.

The Saints proved to be a class act. The Head Coach's closing remarks were respectful of the Bears and dignified. Like you say Tom, the Saints have no reason to be hanging their heads. Y'all should be proud.

Sure am glad I didn't bet more than a coupla zix-pax on these two games. I wasn't expecting the Saints' game final score the way it wound up...even after they blew the pooch in the beginning. Pretty miserable wipe-out. Son-in-law had free RT air plus game tickets in Chicago; he shoulda stayed at home in Nawlins. Oh, well.

BTW...WTF was with Joe Buck with the "...as an African American head coach to take his team to the Super Bowl..." bullshit? Then, disappointingly, Terry Bradshaw mirrored the same crap in his interview after the game. Where's Howard Cosell and Jimmy the Greek when we need them?

Oh, well...I wanted to see Manning do a li'l better tonight too, BUT with even the last FG in the waining 1st-half seconds resulting in 21-6 deficit, I think I'll hit the sack and play with momma's appendages and hear about the NE win tomorrow morning. Regards..jack
