Hmm. I'd like to know the breakdown of these figures in more detail.
In the immediate wake of the attacks, travel to the US plunged by 60 or 70% in some countries, and that took time to recover. There were falls even in the more robust travel industries (as far as travel to the US is concerned) of the UK and the Netherlands.
That would still register a drop over the five and a half year period in question, so dramatic and sudden was the fall. The build up to the Iraq War also had an impact on tourism to the US.
What I would like to see is a comparison of the figures for 2004-6, to see if travel to the States is recovering, or still struggling. That would be more informative.
