50% Of "Free" Vista Downloads Contain Spyware

Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:40 am

San Francisco (IDGNS) - About half of the downloads claiming to be free versions of Microsoft's Vista operating system are actually malicious Trojan horse software, security vendor DriveSentry warned Thursday.

I wouldn't download it. This is typical of spyware and virus creators to jump on-board at the earliest opportunity.
My versions coming tomorrow OEM sealed Vista premium.
I'm most likely insane, but its too good to miss the price I paid.

Why would I do something stupid like download Vista when I already have a working OS? I could stand not to have more crashes, freezes, and inexplicably slower CPU cycles.

So what's the difference? All versions of Vista are bad for you, not just the malicious downloads  biggrin

The title of the original article is "Half of pirated Vista is malware", which leads me to believe that the title of this thread is nothing more than misleading sensationalism.  Yeah sure

No crap...just about anything you download "illegally" is laced with viruses, Trojan horses, and spyware.

My little brother destroyed his PC twice, all from downloading music off of Limewire and Kazaa. Just scanning some of his files on his computer with antivirus showed a multitude of crap.

Any content that you shouldn't get for free - but are anyway - is a risk for trojans and other nasties. The problem is not specifically that it's illegal, rather that you're not getting the content from a trusted source.

But 99% of these bugs are Windows-only, so if you need a nice little machine for all your porn and warez, I might suggest a Mac mini (With a large hard drive, naturally).  Wink

Installing Windows on your computer is like giving the keys to your brand new car to a blind, deaf and retarded kid. *CRASH!*
