NBA Player Tells It Like It Is, Gets Fined By Team

Thu Feb 08, 2007 2:46 am

The Chicago Bulls fined forward Tyrus Thomas $10,000 on Tuesday, one day after the rookie said he only was interested in the prize money at the NBA's slam dunk contest.
======
When asked if being around some of the game's greats could be beneficial for a rookie, he responded, "I'm just into the free money. That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."

That's great. So when all the athletes lie directly to the cameras when they say it isn't about the money when it obviously is, that fine. But when someone lays down the truth, that all he cares about is the dough, the team makes him cough some of it up. Yeah, I'm sure it's an honor for a rookie to be selected, but the slam-dunk contest and the NBA in general has been a joke for at least the last 10 years. As an ambassador of the truth, he should be commended. It's the guy's job, he SHOULD be in it for the money.

Spot on accurate!! I can't stand it when athletes spout off that "it's not about the money" Bullshit, it's nearly always about the money.

Tell the truth and you get hammered? You gotta love this game..Right..again an example of the NBA and it's teams trying to project a false image, and maintain the declining fan base.

Incredible. In an age when sports franchises routinely demand egregious amounts of tax payer dollars to finance new stadiums while threatening to leave town, one has the audacity to fine a player for suggesting that somehow, it's "all about the money".

Athletics are getting to be pretty depressing for those of us who enjoy the art form. While immensely entertaining, putting up with the level of greed and selfishness that comes with the professional/corporate sector is almost becoming too much to ask.

Perhaps what we need are viable leagues to compete with these cash cows for business...maybe then they'd feel a little more inclined to give us something really worth watching.
Picked a hell of a week to quit sniffing glue.

Dammit, Chicago. Stop fining everybody for petty shit.
Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

I agree with that, but a fine? Whatever, as long as my Bulls are in the playoffs and don't exit after one round.

Maybe if he said it another way it would have been fine. Im glad he said it because if thats how he feels then thats how he feels. People who really speak their mind make the world more realistic. Fining him is a joke. He didn't disrepect anyone. Why fine him for is he didn't curse or use foul language??

Totally disagree. Finally someone with the b&lls to tell it like it is. I'm not a fan of the NBA, and until this thread, never heard of Tyrus Thomas, but good on him!

Thomas has not been known for comments like this in the past. Might of been just a rookie mistake.

Not so, my friend. He is a turd. Read the following:

Then there was this doozy while Thomas was in New York to attend a pre-draft function last spring.

It seems that Thomas and a few league executives cabbed it to a hotel. Upon their arrival, Thomas actually expected them to take care of his luggage.

"The league execs couldn't believe it," the source said. "They were like, 'You expect us to do what? Take your own (darn) bags.' The guy turned off a lot of people even before he played a game."
