LAS Meet #7: Rolling Out A Winner 3.23.07

Sat Feb 10, 2007 7:27 am

LAS Meet Part 6 (3/23-3/25): Vegas Vacation A.Net Style (by AAFLT1871 Jan 25 2007 in Non Aviation)

Alright, in starting thread # 7, I have done away with the I am working on it list. I have dropped a few of the names off of the list completely for one reason or another. I know one has court that day and could still make the trip to LAS. I hope you can make it. I have moved 3 of the names to the I'm There even though they still may not make it, they have shown a willing attempt of making it there for the get together. As for the others, and anyone else who would like to attend, by all means you are welcome to attend, we would love to have ya!

If you see a @ and a # by your name it means I have your email and cell phone number. If not, please P.M with that so I can get the list out to everyone attending. I look to send that out by Monday

Update to the list.

From what I gather from various reviews/articles, the fixed price for dinner is $29 (not including drinks/desserts/tips):

So, basically, it's a buffet that comes to you. I can handle that.
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

No hotel yet as I'm still waiting on some info, but I do have my flight info: MyCar #1, arriving when traffic will allow me to.

The rest I'll PM in a bit.

Is that the type of place where they bring over to your table large amounts of skewered meat? Cool.

One more question. I've been looking at hotels (many thanks to Srbmod for the updates!!!) and I'd rather not spend too much money on a hotel room. Would it be totally ridiculous if I stay at the doubletree at the airport? I assume it'd be a short cab ride to the strip...

Thanks.

From what I gathered off of Google Maps, from the Doubletree to O'Shea's (The meeting up spot) is a total of 5.8 miles. Of course the actual distance will vary from cab driver to cab driver. Not sure how much you'd really be saving by staying there because the savings may be eaten up by the cab rides. Here are some additional options:

Gold Coast:
3/22: $64
3/23: $154
3/24: $154
3/25: $59

Gold Coast is about a mile from the Flamingo; they run a shuttle between the Gold Coast and the Barbary Coast until about Midnight. With the Barbary Coast now in the hands of Harrah's (The NV GCB recently approved the transfer of ownership) and the casino getting renamed Bill's Gambling Hall, I'm not sure if the shuttle service will still be operating in the near future.

Super 8 Motel-Las Vegas
3/22: $65
3/23: $115
3/24: $115
3/25: $65

The Super 8 is a block off of the Strip, on Koval Lane, so it's a short walk to O'Shea's from there.

Yep. Last year on Saturday the group split up in the afternoon with half of them going to LAS to spot with SaxDiva climbing onto the roof of her van for photos, and the other half going on the Dam Dam tour. I am sure spotting will be one of the options again this year.

How does noon Saturday sound for the group photo this year? Maybe take it in front of the fountains of Bellagio?

There aren't any currently on the docket, but I'm sure a few of the folks attending may be interested in heading over to the spotting area (It's on E. Sunset Rd.near Escondido St.).

There's some shots from the gaggle who went there instead of the Damn Dam in this thread: The Debauchery Begins (by ANCFlyer Mar 24 2006 in Non Aviation)

Looking through the threads from last year's meet has got me laughing my ass off. It's definitely going to be a bit quiet without CastleIsland and BCAInfoSys (Who's going to be the one to show their ass to the bachelorette parties?).....

While we're on the subject, have we come up the Saturday afternoon plan(s)? That and the post-dinner activities.

I'm not much interested in any kind of tour - unless we are arranging a trip to the Railroad museum. I'll be gambling unless something better is put on the table.

I'll roll with the group.

I have these free hotel comps and in order to keep them in the future I have to do a bit of gambling while I am there. So the only thing I am commited on at this point is meeting up with you guys after the Dave Matthews Band concert Friday night, group photo on Saturday, and a cigar and scotch Saturday night. I shall try and make the dinner but don't know at this point.

I'm not much interested in any kind of tour - unless we are arranging a trip to the Railroad museum. I'll be gambling unless something better is put on the table.

Railroad museum?!?! Did I hear the magic words?

Anyone know if there are any graveyards closer to Vegas than VCV?

There's one over @ IGM, which is about 100 miles SE of Las Vegas. Mostly a bunch of Junkstreams stored there. Not sure if there's anything currently being stored @ LAS, North Las Vegas, or Henderson.

Some of us are heading out for Scotch and Cigars after dinner Saturday.

I was meaning in addition to going to Casa Fuente.

Hey, what's the name of that weird little motel way south on the Strip--the one with the windows into the aboveground swimming pool? I think it was pink the last time I saw it. I always thought it would be kinda cool to stay there, but I can never remember what it's called.

For some reason, I'm in the mood for some OLD Vegas...

The Glass Pool Inn. From what I can gather from Google, it was sold to developers several years back and is now closed.

OK....so it looks like there's at least 4 people interested in going to the railroad museum outside of Boulder City. Do I need to rent a truck for the trip again? If so, no problem.....Pep...let me know if that'll help.

Just got the list, thanks. Do international rates apply when calling an Alaskan number?  Wink

As for the railroad museum, I'm interested, and I'm also planning on renting an SUV as well. Looks like passenger space shouldn't be a problem.

Alas, there are fringe benefits he's got in BHM that are currently unavailable in LAS . . .

The bum.

I definitely would like to see the RR museum. I'll be glad to rent a vehicle to accomodate that. I had planned on renting one anyway - but I'd also been waiting to see if we needed it actually . . . anything happening in town would not require a vehicle. If we're going to the RR museum, it's a given.

I'll get a vehicle for that if it's a go . . . or I'll split the cost, or fill it with fuel, or whatever . . .

Might end up coming a little earlier than originally planned, because I just found out I'm going to have to leave for L.A. Saturday night--I've got a recording session Sunday morning. Argh.

Sooo.... do we have a time in mind for dinner on Saturday? If not, can I request something on the earlier side so I can be there?

Sorry to make things difficult...

Well, if you and hubby are in LAS on Thurs night, those of us arriving early are planning to hit Fremont Street for the light show, hit a local Micro-Brewery just off Fremont a block or so, and basically hang out downtown beginning a pre-emptive strike on the drunken debauchery and gamlin'! Be great to have the two of you along as well.
