Did Anyone See The Two Satellites?

Sat Feb 10, 2007 10:30 am

Just now two satellites were near each other making a bright light. The bright light could only be seen for about two seconds. Did anyone else see them?

No... But those weren't satellites; what you saw was the mother-ship... Big grin

If you are near Minneapolis, you probably saw Iridium flares from #59 and #96 at about 19:23 local time.

Here's a great website for satellite-watching:

Iriduim Flares are extremely common around dusk and dawn. I can almost always spot a couple of satellites at dusk when I look up at the sky for 10 minutes (I like astronomy).

My most memorable "satellite" viewing was when i saw the Mir space station fly past just a few days before it re-entered Earths atmospehere. Needless to say, at that time it was at a low orbital height and thus very bright.
The ISS is also a nice viewing pleasure when it goes past, quite bright and fast moving.

Here is a good site to predict future satellite, ISS and shuttle passes over your location www.heavens-above.com

It did not look like that. There was two little bright dots moving across the sky. Just a couple seconds before this happened, a NW A320 flew over my house.

Satellites are pretty common. I see them frequently when I'm laying out on the deck at night. I'm surprised how many are in polar orbits.

I like watching the International Space Station whenever it passes by. It can be tracked at: http://spaceflight1.nasa.gov/realdata/tracking/ Unfortunately, the site is down for maintenance right now.

there are heaps of sattelites pasing in the sky at night. I doubt anyone, unless they are a keen enthusiast would know which one is which. This is kind of like that thread in civ av "my girlfriend just saw a plane does anyone know which on it is?"

I once got saw the International Space Station in Orbit. It was a couple years ago when i was in high School. It was a big moment because apparently the Space Shuttle was in the process of Undocking with the Station, so we had the opportunity to see both the ISS and the Space Shuttle.

It was really awesome. Would love to see more around in Orbit, but alas....City lights are no fun.
