Iriduim Flares are extremely common around dusk and dawn. I can almost always spot a couple of satellites at dusk when I look up at the sky for 10 minutes (I like astronomy).
My most memorable "satellite" viewing was when i saw the Mir space station fly past just a few days before it re-entered Earths atmospehere. Needless to say, at that time it was at a low orbital height and thus very bright.
The ISS is also a nice viewing pleasure when it goes past, quite bright and fast moving.
Here is a good site to predict future satellite, ISS and shuttle passes over your location www.heavens-above.com
