No. 10 Online Petition Creator "a Prat"

Tue Feb 13, 2007 10:51 pm

You've got to laugh. The government decide to engage with the public by setting up an online petition site, and promptly receive one and a quarter million signatures objecting to one of their central policies, causing them to retreat rapidly. Big grin

It's quite a serious matter though. The fact that a minister would call the creator of the site a prat, means that the minister in question has no interest in the public having a voice and resents the fact that they have one. The sheer nerve! We all subconsciously know that we're nothing but cattle to them, but that's bang out of order.

Wonder if it came out the mouth of a fat, gruff northerner with a face like a soap-boiler's arse, who owns three Jaguars? I'd put money on it.

You know, I used to think that elected officials were in place to represent the public who put them there. Sad, really. I can't believe how naive I used to be.

One last thing;

But given how easy it is to sign up, and the fact that 3,313 people have supported the attempt for the prime minister to perform like a circus act, how seriously can we take the transport petition?

Very seriously. No - really. Thousands of us really do want to watch El Presidente Blair juggle ice cream while standing on his head.

And how much notice will the government take of this? None, thats how much. All they are doing is generating more and more income under the convenient guise of "Green Policies". This will do nothing to reduce the amount of cars on the road. It will simply put more taxpayers money in the coffers of the Treasury for the MP's next pay rise and the next crazy scheme some numpty in Whitehall comes up with.

The UK today is far too national to revert to the "village" identity of yesteryear, where people didn't travel further than their nearest town or went on holiday once a year to Skegness. Families are spread nationwide, businesses operate on a national scale and this scheme will simply generate cash for whatever purpose the Government sees fit and lead to a spiralling cost of living.

As for the online method of petition, well, it is easier and cheaper than traipsing round begging for signatures and the Govrnment should commend the person who started it for saving petrol! Big grin

it was probably thought that it would be better than turning up at No.10 with a big long list of signatures, as the PM is rarely there these days  Wink

Try this:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

It is only available for signing to UK users though (for obvious reasons!). But I should have thought you could still see it.
