Where's Good In L.A For A Six Year Old Girl?

Fri Feb 16, 2007 8:02 pm

Planning a short visit to friend in L.A shortly (next week to be exact!) for four/five days. Where's good for me to take my 6 year old daughter for fun? Universal, Disney etc...............??

San Diego Zoo - about a three hour drive south down I-5.

.....they must have moved it from the old Foothill Drive-In Theatre in LaVerne  wink

Disneyland is good.....she might be a little young for Universal (at least she would have been the last time I was there...15 years ago). Sea World-San Diego would also be a good option, also Legoland in Carlsbad.....see where this is going....south on I-5 to San Diego  wink

You might want to take her to the Long Beach Aquarium. All the exhibits are really great and its a kid friendly environment. Have a nice trip!

What does she like?

Disneyland is a must since you have a little girl. Like some said, the Zoo isn't bad, but San Diego has a much better one (Zoo and Wild Animal Park). Universal could be okay if she likes seeing stage shows and stunt shows.

If she likes astronomy, I would maybe take her to the Griffith Park Observatory (it is near the zoo so you can go in the evening). It is done renovating and is supposedly nice, although you now need tickets. It also gives you an awesome view of the city. It also has a planetarium.

The beach is always a good idea. Depending on where you are staying in SoCal, Santa Monica is good, Newport Beach also, and if you want to see planes from LAX go right above you, theres Dockweiler Beach.

Also don't foget to visit In-n-Out.  Smile

Disney is pretty good, Universal is pretty good, Knott's Berry Farm is a lot of fun, Seaworld and the zoo in San Diego...all good options for kids.

If you want a cheaper bit, try one of the many beaches along the coast. I don't know if she has ever seen the ocean but even if she has, it usually entertains kids and tourists. Whenever I surf I always see families with their kids out there with smiles on their faces. I don't know too many beaches up towards LA besides the surf spots in the area but I know there are plenty. There is also the Santa Monica pier, which is fun. Otherwise, the attractions suggested by previous posters would work.
Life is better when you surf.

Universal City Walk at night.

If you want to get her into surfing, drive up to Surf Rider's Beach in Malibu. Easy waves perfect for a beginner. Beware that the Pacific Ocean is cold, especially in the winter, it's brutal.

Try some cultural exchange; South-Central, Pico, just kidding..Depending on the weather, the beach would be good, the zoo is okay and alot cheaper than San Diego's; personally I think Disneyland is awful expensive for a six-year old and Knotts Berry Farm is a better value.

Neverland Ranch would be safe, unless you're bringing along her twin brother.

At six, do you think she would really know? Go, and be a typical tourist, use your judgement, if you think it is okay, then it should be just fine with her.
