My parents bought the same one last year and they are really happy with it.
The gearbox (semi auto) is kind of jerky in the beginning but overall the quality is Toyota like.

Anyway I wish you happy times and lots of kilometers with it.

I just bought a Mitsubishi L200 Double Cab. It's black, looks mean and I can't afford it (but my bank can!). Monthly repayments more than my mortgage! Happy Days!

Why would anybody buy a semi auto for this kind of car?

I can understand a few people needing full autos, but you might as well buy a manual over a semi-auto.

I really don't understand what all the rage is with these. I have to drive one for work and they're a pile of shit. I can only assume that people buy them for as some kind of status symbol; the kind that wouldn't have bought them if they could afford an X5 or Range Rover.  sarcastic

This cute-as-a-button little runabout is now available in the U.S., also. I like the hatchback; the longer 4 door loses the spunkiness of this design. With Toyota quality, great gas mileage and a low price, you can't go wrong. While I love the Ford Focus (yes, even the dated model sold here) for its driving character, this little guy gives it a serious run for its money. While the Honda Fit has gotten slightly better reviews, it's not as drop-dead cute as this. Congrats & good luck with it.

12,500 Euro!

In Ireland that's what you pay for a 2-3 year old Yaris with at least 20k miles on the clock.

The price is € 14.500 and the discount is 1.200. Then in Italy there are statal incentives (€ 800 + 3 years no taxes) if you withdraw from service your old Euro 0 or Euro 1 car.

That's the reason of the good price.

If I had bought it with no old car retirement, I would have paid it € 13.300.

You're talking old ones or the new one coming later this year? The new 500 is supposed to be a pretty nice little car. (I would love to see Fiat revive the old Topolino name, if the Walt Disney Company allows it.)

The Yaris is in the same class as the Ford Fiesta, VW Polo and Opel Corsa--probably among the most common class of car in Europe. Interestingly, F.pier's Yaris model is now available in the USA, powered by a circa 107 ps 1.5-liter engine. Now, if we can just talk Toyota into putting in a five-speed automatic into the Yaris, sales of that model will really take off (pun intended on this forum!  Wink ). By the way, it appears that the next hot sales segment of cars in the USA is cars in the supermini category, as noted by strong sales of the Yaris, Nissan Versa (neé Tiida) and Honda Fit. Mazda just announced the next-generation Mazda2, and we could see that model assembled in Mexico for the USA market within the next two years.

I bought a 2nd hand Yaris 3 months ago, an older model. Whilst I haven't had it long, I love it to bits. The higher position of the seat is great and it fits into all the little parking spaces. I sure you'll be very happy with yours F.pier

In America the Toyota Yaris is the entry-level vehicle now. Kind of what the Toyota Starlet was in the late 80's and 90's. Other names in Australia are Toyota Echo I believe. Here in Europe we also have the larger Verso version that targets grandparents in their 60's doing day-trips with grand children. The 2007 Yaris is build in Japan and France and very fuel efficient.

The smallest Toyota we have here in The Netherlands right now is the Toyota Aygo (speak: I go). Very popular with housewives that only need to some daily groceries and as a city car. (Smart competition) They are build in the Czech Republic in a brand new factory together in a joint venture with Peugeot and Citroën. So, you will see rebatched Aygo's! It has 4 NCAP stars for safety and have a 1.0L 3 cylinder or 1.4L 4 cylinder Diesel engine.

The Yaris was called the Echo in Canada as well, they changed it over to the Yaris name for the 2006 model year.

Very popular car around here, for both older and younger people. The sedan was very popular for the pre-2006 models, but now the popularity seems to be switching over to the hatchback model.

They are very nice cars and drive well, however, they're a bit too small for me as an only car.

Popularity of this kind of stuff waxes and wanes along with the price of gas and the notion of taxable horsepower....who remembers "You'll think the world of Daihatsuuuuuuuu"? But there are a few around town here in Iowa and they're nifty.

All kidding aside I like wheezing asthmatic pisspot sedans, and life hasn't been the same for me since I got rid of my 1098 cc Morris Minor.....

What we COULD use here in the states is a good spartan ladder frame rear drive pickup truck, optional closed delivery body, maybe 1.8 liter, manual shift, rubber floor mats and heater. Sort of like my 1987 Mitsubishi shorty pickup....sell for about $7,500....anyone in China listening?

Can anyone provide a picture of the dash of the Yaris? I was sitting in traffic alongside an Echo today and the instrumentation was mounted in the middle of the dash. Not easy to see from the driver's seat I would think.

Personally, I don't like it. I rented a Nissa Primera a few years back, and it was designed witht the instruments in the middle. It takes a lot of getting used to. I also find it not as safe as standard instrumentation, because you're eyes are off the road longer then they would be normally, as well, you almost have to move your whole head to read the speed correctly.

I must admit I went "out on a limb" with this one, but having had it for 3 months I completely agree there's nothing you can't really do with it. Throw my daughter in the back seat, dog, bikes in the back and tow the boat or jetski. Sit's on the motorway at 90 without any effort at all. Extremely comfortable with all the kit, climate, sat nav, cruise control. I'm sold!!!

I drive a 2007 Yaris 2-door hatchback (not my own) with a standard transmission, and it's a fairly nimble little car. My biggest criticism would be winter driving - it's not terribly heavy on the road, and so if you combine high winds and bad road conditions, the drive is a little bit stressful. Also, the rear window quickly becomes ineffective without a rear wiper due to the dirt that gets kicked up from the rear wheels. My favourite feature is actually the positioning of the cup holders. Since the instruments are in the middle of the dash, the space beneath the left and right side vents is available for cup holders, possibly the most convenient spot possible in the car. Initially the different positioning of the instruments seemed awkward, but I quickly became used to it. It's also surprisingly spacious, even in the back with plenty of leg and head room. I also found the mileage to be quite a bit better than listed. During the summer, I once measured the distance I drove between filling up the tank. It was mostly highway driving, but with a bit of city driving as well, and when I checked how much gas I filled it up with the second time, it came out to just a bit above 50mpg. The mileage has reduced quite a bit with winter tires and winter driving, but I'm still quite pleased.

Well, there are a couple things that occurred to me sitting in traffic next to this lady in her Echo, a/k/a Yaris with 4 doors and a trunk.

As I was sitting there in my Mitsubishi pickup I tried looking down the road and then taking my eyes off for a quick scan of my radio in the center of the dash. It took far too long because of the way your eye muscles work. If you're looking straight ahead your peripheral vision down below will let you see the instrument cluster without too much trouble. Try it.

Parallax. That's error when you're looking at an analog gauge from an angle...potential's here.
