After having consulted Airliners.net on a daily basis over the past few years, I have decided to become a FirstClass member in order to participate in the Forum postings. I have been a civil aviation "freak" since I was probably eight years old. I even wrote two masters theses (one in economics and one in political science) on the aviation industry. I have done considerable university level research in the airline and aircraft manufacturing industries at the LSE and MIT. So, debaters on the Airbus vs Boeing subsidy issue, watch out... The answer is clearly, unequivocally YES both the US and participating European governments have subsidized Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas. On this issue, no government is holier than another. End of story.
I have also worked in the aviation industry, financing airline purchases of Boeing, Airbus, ATR and Saab aircraft (did that for five years and it was great fun - if a bit stressful at times).
Needless to say, I have flown alot in my lifetime. I am a Flying Blue (AF/KLM) Platinum member (Elite Plus in the Skyteam programme), a Mileage Plus Premier Executive (UA, Gold in the Star Alliance) and a simple BA
Executive Club member. I am also a DL
I'll be posting a series of catch-up topics: airlines I have flown, airports I have visited, aircraft I have flown, first and business classes I have tested and an occasional trip report (maybe). But I am happy to be here with fellow airline afficionados.
My next flight is this Friday, 23 February on Lufthansa Cityliner from Paris CDG
to Berlin Tegel on a CRJ200.
