What Are Your 2007 Spring Break Plans?

Mon Feb 19, 2007 3:14 pm

As the thread title asks, do you have any exciting plans for Spring Break 2007?
I'll be flying home to North Carolina on Friday, March 16 and returning back to Florida on Sunday, March 25th. I'll be spending most of the week sleeping, eating real food, and playing golf.  Smile

My flights home and back are:
3/16/2007:
Delta 513: TPA - ATL
Depart: 5:30 PM
Arrive: 7:02 PM
Aircraft: Boeing 767-300  bigthumbsup

Delta Connection 5073 ATL - GSO
Depart: 10:48 PM
Arrive: 12:01 AM
Aircraft: Canadair CRJ

3/25/2007
AirTran 471: CLT - ATL
Depart: 10:40 AM
Arrive: 11:52 AM
Aircraft: Boeing 717

AirTran 899: ATL- DAB
Depart: 12:40 PM
Arrive: 2:00 PM
Aircraft: Boeing 717.

***Anyone on these flights or traveling through ATL on these dates? As you can tell, I have a nice 3 hour, 46 minute layover in ATL on the 16th (though I will be trying to standy-by for the earlier flight into GSO) , so if anyone's in ATL in that time period (or or one of these flights) and is interested in meeting up, let me know.

What are everyone else's plans?

A friend and I will be flying ourselves (the joys of having PPL's) from TUS to FFZ (Falcon Field in Mesa if anyone doesn't know) to try out the Anzio Landing Italian Restaurant on March 12. I've heard it's good, so we decided to try it out. I also thought about going through the VFR transition route above PHX, but it is out of the way. Maybe next time.

Staying the hell away from commuting. Spring Break is a notoriously heavy travel period (March1st to April 30th) for travel to/from PHX.

It is harder to non-rev out of PHX during Spring Break than it is during Thanksgiving or Xmas. We PHX commuters hate this time of year.

So in answer to your question, home as much as possible (PHX).

As a grown up I don't get spring break.  Sad

But I do have travel plans.... out to Houston for a few days to attend the christening of my friend's baby. So its not like I'll be on the beach watching crazy co-eds gone wild.

Its run of the mill Italian, to be honest. Though if you are there for dinner you will be treated to a nice sunset and view.

Hopefully going to New York to see my brother who just moved out there for school. A couple nights out on the town will cure what ails me.

Don't know how I'll get there yet but I'm thinking about YX.

I'm going to be going back home to California for spring break. The parents kind of guilt-tripped me into it. At least this way I get to save up some cash to do a real spring break trip a year or two from now. Dublin, hopefully.

I actually have money to do something this spring break (thanks to being on Workman's Comp for a month), but by the time my check came, I was unable to find any specials to any of the big destinations. Maybe a couple of friends and I will spend a day or 2 in Atlantic City. If not, I guess I'll just be sleeping.

I too have plans. It makses sense for me to leave sunny California and go back east for spring break huh... I do it every year, and last year I told this chick sitting next to me on the airplane, and she looked at me like I had three heads. My flights for this year are:

Depart 04.02.2007
Delta xxxx
LAX-JFK
B757

Delta xxxx ob Freedom
JFK-PVD
Dash 8

Depart 04.09.2007
Delta xxxx ob Freedom
PVD-JFK
Dash 8

Delta xxxx
JFK-LAX
B757

Man it has been awhile since I have flown anyone but UA. Usually Price does not matter to much to me since UA is not THAT much more than the cheapest fare, bit I just could not resist:
1. DL fare of $160.00 RT
2. Going to JFK (never been)
3. Song IFE I [hopefully] will get on the 757's.

My spring break (from King's College London in England) is the whole month of April.

The first week of April, I will be flying BA LHR-LAX for an interview at USC-Los Angeles for a PhD position in craniofacial research at USC's craniofacial department. I may be extending my trip to include visits to Stanford University and UCSF, both in San Francisco. (I was invited to LA for an interview by a professor at USC). I am applying for PhD courses in craniofacial deformities research (something inspired by my own life experience).

At the end of April, I have a thesis due for my degree in craniofacial sciences at King's College London, based on the laboratory research I've been doing in their craniofacial department (on floor 27 of Guy's Hospital Tower in London). Guess what--my thesis is due on my birthday (April 25); what a way to celebrate my 32nd birthday!

A friend may be visiting me here in London in the last week of April; she wants to bring Mom along. I'm hoping so! If they come, I have my own special tour of London to take them on--to show them King's College London, my labs in Guy's Tower, and other places I frequent.

Yeah, all those crazy co-eds that inhabit the bars at Marriotts. Big grin

Or all the crazy co-eds you can pick up at a Mormon christening ceremony.

It was about 3 weeks after I had finalized my travel plans for this trip that I realized I could have taken an extra 2-3 days off and gone down to South Padre. Oh well I am getting too old for that stuff. I don't think crazy co-eds would be impressed by my Hertz full-sized rent-a-car.

Goin to the Condo in Florida

Not quite sure on the outbound flight yet, as of right now it is:

03/01/07

Allegiant 814: LAN-PIE
Depart: 10:35
Arrive: 1:20
Aircraft: MD-80

03/10/07

Allegiant 715: SFB-LAN
Depart: 4:10
Arrive: 6:45
Aircraft: MD-80

If we can figure it out, we might leave a night earlier:

02/28/07

Allegiant 716: LAN-SFB
Depart: 7:20
Arrive: 9:50
Aircraft: MD-80

If anyone knows the registrations for the planes scheduled for the trips, that would be helpful. I might be leaving at night, and since I haven't seen one for, I am planning on writing a TR so I can let you all know how it goes. Hoping to use digital camera that I might get for my birthday tomorrow.

B) Actually be at Sebring (very long shot)
C) At first round NCAA tournament games, if Central Connecticut St wins the NEC (my friend covers them for the local paper and he asked me to go with him... at no cost to me Big grin )

I'm trying to come up with ideas of things to do in Atlanta for the 3 and 1/2 hours I'll be there.
Current options are:

  • Eat at the Chilli's in A Concourse that overlooks the ramp.
  • Try to get some decent night shots (which my camera really isn't good for  frown  )
  • See how many "laps" I can accumulate on the train in that time period.  biggrin  "Careful, these doors are closing and will not reopen. Please wait for the next train."
  • Go to the USO and chill for a while, though I really don't want to have to reclear security.
  • Standby for the earlier flight to GSO

Anyone have any other ideas of what to do in ATL for 3+ hours?

You could:
Count the 767's (if they all haven't left already)
Count the 757's
Count the 737's
Count the 717's
Count the MD-80's
Or for a real challenge, Count the CRJ's

We're doing the following next month:

MSY-ATL-AMS....3 days in AMS....one travel day to Paris....three days in Paris....then CDG-ATL-MSY.

But I agree with USAFHummer that you needn't worry about being that exact around non-nerds. Of course, if it isn't the same plane, you could use the argument that the one you're on might be due for it's own forced glide-to-landing. They just might buy it.  Smile

It's a great restaurant. I've been down 4-5 times the past 3 years from PRC. It definitely boosts that pilots ego when you pull up in your plane and the entire restaurant can see you. Then you walk through the door with the "Pilots Entrance" sign over it. And make sure you take some bread to go, it's VERY good. But make sure they dont charge you for it like they did to us last time, bastards. You should definitely go get night current. I always love flying over PHX at night. And screw the transition, just go land at PHX! I do it everytime I'm down there. Just let FFZ ground know you want to do it before you take off and they'll take care of it. Just tell them your going over to Cutter Aviation. Plus it's really good experience in not only in Class B but landing at a major airport in between the big boys (and you'll prbly end up getting the transition anyway as the vector you)

We don't get spring break here in Costa Rica.

Thats where I'm going for spring break! Any suggestions on where to stay for a night around the airport in SJO? My friend and I are using $200 off vouchers we got for being bumped and are going to spend a few days in Dominical.

Sleeping in for a bit. The main plan is to go to Six Flags Over Georgia as many times as we can.

Work doesn't give me a March break. But I'm planning to take vacation some time at the end of March, April or May for a trip somewhere. The destination of the trip all depends on whether I have a passport yet.

My family and I are going to Duluth and stay at a lodge, my sister doesn't want to but to bad. My sister wanted to go to Washington D.C. on her own and take care of my aunt and uncle's baby, but my aunt and uncle moved to Salt Lake City so she doesn't want to do that. My dad will be going to LAS tomorrow for a wedding and then he is going to play golf in Palm Springs, I didn't want him to go because I wanted to save money for a trip to Florida for spring break.

I may be extending my trip to include visits to Stanford University and UCSF, both in San Francisco.

Must have missed something, when did Stanford University move to San Francisco?

Its run of the mill Italian, to be honest.

And thats being nice about the quality of food.

Going to Ecuador....Quito, Banos and Otovalo.

I think the Routing is....

CMH-ATL-UIO.
MD-90 and then a 757.

UIO-ATL-CMH
757 and then a E170

P.S. Anyone been to Ecuador before?...anything exciting to do/ see there....Don't exactly have time to go to the Galapagos Islands....but anything else?
