Lord I Apologize

Thu Feb 22, 2007 11:31 am

I've been informed by one of my colleagues that my request that ran :Oh Jeezis, here we go again....KROC! Hailp! Cleanup in aisle 3" got a certain Anglo American Allaince Goes Down the Tube" thread tanked.

Folks, it was satire. However, I did alert the mods that it was getting a bit frisky there. I think that's the same way I keep getting these three day and one week vacations.

Ultimately, they (the moderators) act on their own and I am not one of them. I may not have been the only person who mentioned it, though because I think they're a little fed up with me being the Lineville Lip and all that....

Anyway, if you guys wanna beat the snot out of Bush, s'alright by me.

Carry on, Airmen.

George W Bush, or just any bush? I have this bush in my backyard I beat the snot out of almost every day. It doesnt have any snot, so it is really easy. In fact I dont even have to move...

No need to apologize just about everyone in that thread was bang except the thread starter. Even GDB and Klaus' posts were clear and concise. your clean up in aisle 3 carcked me up. I don't understand the mod's comments about US bashing though, it was more like a short course in modern diplomacy and politics.

One man's bashing is another's cricitism. Because the reason was not just 'bashing,' but 'America bashing,' the thread was locked because the content was deemed objectionable.

I just don't know if we should continue to talk about the war; worse, the conversations might be very one sided now and pretty boring if criticism of America is not allowed.

I hope a.net provides us with some guidance, perhaps a list of things we are allowed to talk about.

I thought your comment was funny. I assumed it was Klaus's post that got the thread tanked. I have to admit, I was pretty surprised at the reason put forward. No one was bashing the US, Klaus was pointed (as he always is), but nothing he wrote was inaccurate or inflammatory, just uncomfortable.

I've always been an adamant proponent of self-policing of forum threads by the posting public. And the rather puzzling reason posted for the lock only further confirms my position on that. The only exception I can see from my side are extremely offensive posts which significantly cross the border of basic human decency or outright trolling just for the sake of watching the wreckage burn, not just exceeding the boundaries of my personal preferences.

I think the one thing that needs to be remembered is that playing with grownups can lead to the occasional bruise, but nobody is actually being destroyed around here,

While aggressive and accusatory, the thread starter in Anglo-American Aliance Dead? still deserved a bit more attention than just prefabricated responses - or the "nuclear destruction" of the entire discussion exactly when his points were getting addressed.

I have no doubt that not everybody particularly enjoys a closer look at some individual arguments, but discussions which are worthwile aren't always easy.

Some fingers always hovering over the big red button simply take the fun and the relevance out of the forums in the end, so we should conduct our discussion openly and fairly, and remain capable of de-escalation even when things are heating up at times.

Or simply close the thread and go elsewhere when we don't like a discussion, not destroy it for everybody else as well.

This thread will degenerate quickly. And we'll have another round of "how unfair the Moderators are". It should have been posted in Site Related anyway.

Before it gets outta hand, it's done.
