From the other thread.....

Quoting MDorBust (Reply 210):
I really hope you put some limits on what can be used on the plate contest... Least an M1A or Ruger no.1 wander over to the plates

They won't allow rifles at the plate range. Cheater! It might also be good to limit pistol magazines to something under thirty rounds too.

Quoting Go3Team (Reply 211):
Someone would end up rich from my contributions.

No shit, me too. The ones you really have to watch out for are Miamiair and Mrs. Miamiair and Ilikeyyc. DL021 is a dark-horse in this race because he didn't make it over to the plate range last year, but he talked a good game in the last thread. ANC has a hard time shooting one-handed while he's using the other to put his teeth back in or holding his cane or adjusting his bifocals or opening his bottle of Geritol or.......well, you understand.

If I recall correctly, there wasn't that much grass around the plate range.  Wink If there is, maybe he can make a couple of bucks that way since the plates aren't going make much for him.

That's where having a Glock 17 with the extended magazine comes in handy...19+1.

Laugh it up you two . . . .

Of course it's preferable to have a tank . . . . overwhelming firepower atn any assault.

Seriously, the plate range sound like fun. I missed that last year . . .

I recommend that we only allow "carry" weapons in the contest. That way we keep race guns out.

That sounds fair, but John Blue had a 9mm 1911 pistol he set up specifically for plates last year so we don't want to step on his toes.

Anyway, yes I agree that we should draw the line at something like only those guns that would be IDPA legal. ISPC stuff would be beyond the scope of what most here would have, or at least willing to take to BHM unless they specifically wanted to clean-up in this deal.

We talking about knocking the plates down or shooting at the plates for hits?

For the falling plates it will be 10mm or .45.

If it plates for hits against time. it'll be the 9mm.

Knocking them down. (As you know) 9 will do it, you just have to hit them in the top 1/4 or 1/2. It's the gun that we're talking about. If I took a comp'ed Sig X-five or a tricked-out long-slide 1911 with a comp and mag well if wouldn't be fair to somebody with a G26.

"talked a good game"...hmmmm.... well, I did knock over the plates on the 40 yd range every time Pepper set them up, but I was having a good day. But, if we're talking about shooting for pride and honor...I'll participate. I hope no one is expecting to play for too much money.......a little maybe......I nominate Pepper to hold the cash...he ain't gonna win any, so he at least oughta get to hold it a while......  Wink

Quoting Queso (Reply 1):
It might also be good to limit pistol magazines to something under thirty rounds too.

That's simple....make it a timed deal for a specific number of rounds per mag. 5 rounds per magazine, and everyone reloads equally. Or I don't mind having full mags but everyone gets an equal number of rounds.

Quoting MDorBust (Reply 6):
I recommend that we only allow "carry" weapons in the contest. That way we keep race guns out.

I don't really care if someone brings their race gun...as long as it fits in an inside the pants holster and they have to draw just like everyone else.

Quoting Miamiair (Reply 10):
We talking about knocking the plates down or shooting at the plates for hits?

Well, knocking down what you shoot at seems like its the most important thing......

Either one will work. I think we should do either 7 rounds per magazine or six if someone want to try with a wheel gun.

I suggest we start with the pistol drawn, there maybe those that aren't adept to drawing from holsters...

I agree. ANC and I discussed this before the meet last year, but it never became an issue because we never had our friendly "shoot-out".

Guys,

Shift me down to the maybe column. The wife's bitching about the money this year, as I already have two golf trips scheduled, and her and I are going on our anniversary trip next month. It's an expensive year to say the least. I'm hoping to sooth her fears, and still make it. If so, I'll be driving down from here, and can provide help with travel for anyone if necessary. I'll know more as we get closer to the date.

Oh don't you worry; he's a well-known user and I've met him personally. He's a stand-up guy and one that I would welcome in my home and/or travel with extensively in a heartbeat. The only reason I'm refraining from mentioning his name is out of his respect for his situation. I will also bring one of the Mosin-Nagant 91/30 sniper rifles that I have made to let anyone who wants test fire it. If you have not seen the rifle in my post check out this link.

Wow, now I know why my ears were burning!  Wink Mystery solved - its me. Like Steve said, I'm not much of a shooter anymore, but it'd be fun to get back into it, at least for a weekend. And especially since I'm missing Vegas, fun to hang out with the 'nutters' for a few days. At this stage its very tentative, but as work shakes out over the next couple of months, I'll keep it in the back of my mind.

My family has a reunion in Cullman which is about 30 miles north of BHM ever year about this time.

No way! That is where my family is from and there is where the reunions are! That is really weird. Cullman is such a small city with many people from there. To be honest (and I know that I will get some sayings from people on here for it) but my ex-girlfriend's family is from Cullman as well  Wow!! Her reunion actually is the same weekend as mine. But I assure you she is not from my family. That is really funny Swat!

Quoting Queso (Reply 35):
So just stretch out your visit! You need to spend more time with your family anyway!

We will see what I can do. Maybe I will go back to school after that weekend to take my classes and then fly back in the Friday night and stay until Sunday. It is not that long of a travel from DTW. That is the only way I make the trip is by going to college in Michigan because travel from California is just an all day affair. Okay I will work on it Queso! There is one problem...the only gun I have shot is my Autococker paintball gun Big grin

Haha I dont doubt it eather. But, I would not dare borrow someones hardware for fun shooting. If anything, I would buy my own here soon and have my neighbor take me to his range and shoot and take some classes. About how much do guns cost for someone who is starting out that will just do it for fun? I would just LOVE to go hunting one day though. When I was in the Amazon jungle I went with three other guys (one american and two natives), hunting for a Jag. That was the most intense moment of my life! But was soooo exciting and makes me want to go hunting. A guy that is a friend of the family invited me to go with him and his boy to Africa to go hunting.

Well guys, put me on the working on it list. I will see what I can do to meet up with you guys. I know if we do a Detroit meet up or Lansing, I am all there!

You shouldn't be shy about that, lots of people do it and we all end up shooting each other's guns anyway. Besides, the owner of the gun would be right there with you to help and supervise anyway.

You can get a starter-quality gun in a respectable caliber in the $100-$200 range. If you can move up to the $200-$300 range, the selection expands lot and the quality improves too.

Here's a link to Hi-Point Firearms, almost the whole line of guns they offer is in the $100-$200 range. They are ugly as hell, but they are dependable and I've never seen one worn out. I have several of them myself, American made and lifetime warranty. http://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/

Firearms are an investment. You can get an inexpensive one now and trade it in toward something a little more expensive later on.

Yeah I know but I just do not want to feel responsible for something that is expensive like that and also means something to someone else. Plus, I have never shot a gun before (althought I am sure I will take lessons on gun safty and such before Alabama), so I would not want to do something wrong with anothers gun.

Yeah right now I can afford the $100 to $200 range. I am $2000 away from paying off my Jeep so that is on my mind right now. Plus I just bought the new BlackJack and a new digital camera so that sent me back a grand. Hopefully in the next 2 months or so I will have a gun. I saw on the list that there is a shop that sells their guns here in my city. I think I will check them out tomorrow as I will be right next door at the Post Office tomorrow.

Yeah they are! Haha but some of those Carbines looked pretty cool. I think I would start out with something a little bigger then the hand guns. That way I can have both hands on it nice and ferm rather then one hand on the other.

What do I need to do in order to buy a gun and shot it? Is there some legal things I need to do first? Gosh I must sound like a big pansy right now! ANCFlyer, please dont shoot me in my ass! Adopim88 is probably laughing her butt off too right now. Haha

Really, you don't need to feel that way. Most guns are very durable and the only way they can be damaged is by abuse or neglect. Check these out:

Yes, they do. I have both the 9mm and the .40 caliber version and I am thinking about bringing them to BHM.

One of the best ways to find out about restrictions and regulations in your area is to ask a salesperson at a local gun store about the process. Ordinarily it's not a big deal but I looked at your profile and since you're in Kommiefornia (sorry, they have more restrictive gun regulations) you might have to jump through a few extra hoops. After the gun store, go to a local law enforcement agency and make sure the info you got was correct. Don't just talk to the desk officer, talk to someone who has some bars on their collar. Then, check out http://www.packing.org/state/california/ That's geared more towards people that want a license to carry, but it has some other good info. Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but I am not familiar with California's laws concerning firearm purchases. Keep in mind none of that applies to BHM and your shooting other people's firearms though.

I doubt it. Most gun enthusiasts are very helpful and anxious to give a hand to anyone who might be interested in giving shooting a try. I am a Concealed Handgun Instructor and I really enjoy helping lots of people just like yourself who have never even seen a gun in real-life before. My greatest satisfaction in shooting is to see the wild-eyed amazement in someone's eyes when they shoot a gun for the first time and see that it's nothing at all like what they see in the movies and hear about on TV.
