Senior Citizen Kills Mugger With Bare Hands

Sat Feb 24, 2007 3:02 am

Well, chalk one up for the good (and somewhat older) guys. Now before I get flamed for applauding someone being killed, keep in mind these 3 armed attackers targeted a tour bus carrying senior citizens. My only regret is the other 2 perpetrators were able to run off before suffering the same fate as that of their cohort.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17284416/

"SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - An American senior citizen killed an alleged mugger with his bare hands, and his traveling companions aboard a tour bus fended off two other assailants in the Atlantic coast city of Limon, police said.

A retired member of the U.S. military aged about 70 put suspect Warner Segura in a head lock and broke his clavicle after the 20-year-old and two other men armed with a knife and gun held up their tour bus, Luis Hernandez, the police chief of Limon, 80 miles east of San Jose, said Thursday. Segura was later declared dead, apparently from asphyxiation.

The two other men fled when the 12 senior citizens started defending themselves during the Wednesday attack. Afterward, the tourists drove Segura to the Red Cross where he was declared dead. The Red Cross also treated one of the tourists for an anxiety attack, Hernandez said."

To blazes with 'em, if they don't like it. You play, you pay . . . sometimes for good. No sympathy.

Good on the 70 year old retired GI - too bad he didn't get a chance to kill the other bastards . . .

Impossible to say. But people don't allow themselves to be victims the same way they did before 9/11.

A tour bus carrying senior citizens in Limón? Ahem, I'm glad I made it through there in one unharmed piece as a backpacker.  Silly Sad thing that assault happened in the first place, and that someone died in it.

Maybe I've watched full metal jacket a few times too much, but I always had the impression that you better not try to screw a marine.

Well, if he is 70 years old he couldn't possibly be a WWII Vet, he was only 15 during the Korean War as well, so if he served he was probably an officer in Vietnam or something of that sort. Anyway, I bet he's a kickass grandpa with lots of cool stories!

You seem to have issues. Do you think I tried to defend the thug? Sorry to disapoint. Besides that my comment you refer to had a different backround - see reply 12 & 14, I would say that happens when you try to muck the wron person (like a US Marine).

If the age given by the article is correct you should calculate again. Looks more like Korea or even Vietnam.

I'd be willing to bet he would've kicked this guy's ass just the same, had it been before 9/11.

At least the kid will be spared the embarrassment of his buddies making fun of him for getting beat up by an elderly man.

How the hell does someone die from a fractured clavicle? The suspect must have been a super wuss.

I saw this in the paper this morning. Wonder if the authorities in Costa Rica will give the gentlemen an award..Also wonder if the rest of the senior citizens will buy him a drink during dinner..(Personally, I feel the cruise line should refund the cost of his cabin, after all he saved the company embarrassment since those tours usually are recommended by the cruise line).

What for? He acted out of self-defence and the attacker got killed in the process. While my strong disagreement with "he deserved to die" nonsense might be known to one or two a.netters, he was the one to start the chain of events leading to his own dead. But an award? What sort of award would that be, the "Strangle the Outlaw with Your Military Hands Gold Palm"?

I have heard a story from a few years ago that in London some chavs tried to tackle an old man (a WW2 vet), who just came from a memorial day ceremony at the cenotaph. The one thing they missed was that the old man was wearing a green beret. The rest of the story was a very painfull for the chavs. Big grin

What does a green beret mean? Does it mean he was special forces or something?

But good going to the senior! About time someone showed these arshols what for!

There is a man awaiting trial here in the Portland area for a murder-for-hire scheme. Here's the basics of what happened:

He and his wife were separated. She worked as an emergency room nurse. She came home one night to find a man with a claw hammer waiting inside her home. His intent was to kill her. She, instead, strangled him to death with her bare hands. A week later, we find out the deceased had worked at an adult store cleaning up the back and his co-worker (the estranged husband) paid him to take out the woman. But wait! It gets better.....

The man's daughter posted bail! Yes, she went and got him bailed out but no one would let him live anywhere so he was still lodged in the county jail. The prosecution brought two more charges against him and his bail was raised so releasing him was a moot point.

I think he goes to trial in late March. The complete story would be on kgw.com or oregonlive.com. Those are the two most reliable news sites for Portland.

GO CANUCKS!!
Life in the wall is a drag.

Just out of curiousity, since I'm no expert on the law, since the death of the robber was done in self defense, is the WWII veteran guilty of anything, or does he just have to file a report with the police and then carry on? Before I get  flamed , I'm in no means trying to say what the man did was wrong or that he should have reacted differently, but I'm moreso curious if the law says there are no reprocussions if you kill someone in self defense.

The article I read said he was released without further charges. BTW he is too young to be an WWII veteran (or are you talking about the case Jan mentioned?)
