Guardian: US Intelligence On Iran Doesn't Stand Up

Sun Feb 25, 2007 7:11 am

Does this sound familiar?

Much of the intelligence on Iran's nuclear facilities provided to UN inspectors by American spy agencies has turned out to be unfounded, according to diplomatic sources in Vienna.

now you being to understand why the US objected to Dr Elbaradei being re-elected as IAEA director general...they'd rather have a puppet in Vienna who won't ask the questions than an educated man who'll dig deep to find the answers.

Besides at this point so call intelligence gather by US spy agencies must be viewed skeptically by most of the world's countries. In short, US intelligence agencies credibility will take years to restore.

This is unfair. The intelligence agency professionals were not wrong. The so-called 'intelligence' that was used to bootstrap the case for war came from Chaney's inner circle that ignored what the professionals were telling them.

Even if we put the best possible face on the pre-war analysis, let's not forget we hear claims all the time about things being true that we don't accept simply because they were sincerely believed. Very few jews become christians, or chirstians become muslim because someone else claims a truth they believe intensely.

Therefore, it is not the sincerity of belief, nor the assertion of truth, that necessarily makes something compelling. Our political leadership failed to properly weigh supposed truths and simply took the easy path at the time. Democrats were as gutless as republicans were gullible. The advantage the Democrats have going into the next election is they have backed off from their support for the war, while the republicans still cling to this millstone.
