Man Gets 18-Life For DUI Crash With Wedding Limo

Fri Mar 02, 2007 6:18 am

The stupid moron was so drunk he went the wrong way down the expressway, when
he struck a limo heading home from a wedding reception, killing the driver, and
a 7 year old flower girl. His BAC was 3 times the legal limit, and after re-watching the video link in the story, I will correct myself to please the powers that be, and say that the girl was indeed the one decapitated in the accident.

18 to life isn't enough. Lock him away for life. Period.

Deja Vu...

I agree that the sentence probably isn't harsh enough, but it is what it is. There have been crimes committed by others as severe as this that have garnered more lenient sentences.

Lets see the guy is 25 years of age, if he serves the full 18 that would mean he would be 43, more likely younger parole after 2/3 to 80% of the minimum.

And you can't keep everyone in prison for life, it would be to big a burden for society. Actually in the reality it is a harsh sentence, I seen DUI get less time (2 years) for crashing into a car, causing it to be engulfed in flames and burning up a mother and her child.

A guy (Reggie Stephy) I went to high school (Lake Travis) with hit a car full of UT students, killing two of them, and burning a third one beyond recognition. He was 2.5 times the legal limit in Texas.

He was too drunk to do anything after he hit their car, but said he heard the students screaming at they burned alive in the car. The murder's folks have money; he got two 7 year sentences and is serving them consecutively. The murderer will probably get paroled after serving 5.  no

Stories like these make me sick to my stomach when reading...

Look at the story in the original thread I cite, where the Drunken Sod hits the bus full of children . . . . he got 16 years. Over 20 people died that night. His 6th/8h (I forget) DUI. The scumbag is out now. Those children are still dead.

One guy, a Sergeat First Class at the Army Hospital at Ft. Knox, lost his wife and BOTH daughters that night. I knew him and went with my best friend (his life insurance agent) to deliver the check for the life insurance settlement. I will not forget that night.

I have no sympathy for DUIs.

Goodness, people talking of criminals as though they were cockroaches...  Wow!

Not to defend DUI murderers, but what you (plural) are saying is nothing short of disgusting. "Exterminate" people?! For heaven's sake, don't use that sort of vocabulary! Believe it or not, I don't care, but this shocks me more than the DUI murderer himself.

He is a criminal and my objection to the death penalty you demand is nothing but a matter of principle in this case, but the second anyone mentions "exterminating" other humanbeings, every single proverbial alarm bell in my head starts ringing.

And?

Someone on their second, third, fifth, tenth Drunk Driving charge is not worthy of continued intake of oxygen . . . incorrigible.

Sorry dude . . . that's the way I feel about it.

When you pick a couple dead - innocent - bodies off the side of a road that were hit by a drunk driver - that is still walking around, and you have to explain to the survivors of the innocent victims, perhaps your feelings will change - a little, just a little.

I hope I'll be able to control my anger in that sort of situation. It is just the wording that I have a problem with, not the outrage; at least not most of it.

The perpetrator there, His name is Larry Mahoney - I will never forget that - is alive and well and living his life. There is my friend, something very wrong with that.

Mate, I have a really good friend (Grace Stillman is her name and she had an older sister by the name of Shelley I think who might have went to HS with you...she died of cancer though last year) who went to Lake Travis HS and lives there. I visited her summer of 2005...really really nice area. I tried wakeboarding on Lake Travis but to no avail...im too much of a Polak to excel in such weird activity!

That is also when I found out I love the BLT from Texas Star!

So how about "slaughter"? "Obliterate"? "Annihilate"? Or would "eradicate" suit your fancy a bit better?

Not that I'd care either way.

Have enough people that you know and care about being picked out of roadside bushes, their cranial-matter having to be scooped off the pavement, their unstrewn body-parts having to be searched-for due to being in different parts of the vehicle which were separated by impact........... and then talk to me about how willing you are to spare the worthless existence of the "was just trying to get home" crowd.

A favor? Unless you're planning to have him shot on his way out of court, (and even if you are) I don't see your point. Having someone on death row for the standard waiting period costs the state millions upon millions in litigation costs.

And in the long run, is all of this really bound to make the loved ones of the deceased feel any better? Not likely.

I'll take that bet.

IMHO, if there is a death as a result of a DUI, there should be a charge of a degree of murder, and nothing less. It's a result of one breaking a serious law. It would also get the convicted serious "DUIer" off the street much longer, if not for life.
