Sun Mar 04, 2007 10:19 am

This is a sequel thread of Favourite Meal At McDonalds? (by WestJetYQQ Mar 2 2007 in Non Aviation)

I'll have a Papa Burger (hold the pickles), Rings, and a Nice Frosty Root Beer. Followed by a nice Root Beer Float.  yummy

What is your Favourite Meal At A&W?

Cheers

I hate root beer and anything that has to do with it.

Especially a restaurant made after it.  Wink

Worse food ever. The hot food is always cold. The fries are always raw. The prices are too high. $2.19 for a coney dog? $3.19 for cheese curds? They're greedy little bastards.

Overrated, surviving and marketing on nostalgia, nothing more. Poutine is good though...

And I hate the fact that they do not have ice for pop.

So the score between Canada and the US:

Canada - hockey, A&W

US - everything else.

The last time I ate at an A&W was a few years ago at the one in Benson, AZ off of I-10. I've eaten there many times and have never experienced any of the problems mentioned above. I think there is one in Tucson at a truck stop off of I-10, but I have never been there. It would be great if we had more, I really like the place.

Unfortunately very true - the A&W of today bears no resemblance to the ones of my youth, other than brand names.

I remember A & W in Singapore. I'd have

-2 x Coney dogs
-1 x 6 pack of Chicken wings
-1 x waffles with ice cream and chocolate Fudge
-1 x Large Root beer float
-2 x curley fries

Mouth is watering now  Wink

So true. The A&W I loved while growing up looked a lot like this. The owners made the root beer from scratch every day.

The ones in my neck of the woods were the original style of drive in, with the funky menu/ordering unit, then the car hop came to your car, tray on the window, etc. I don't like root beer, and yet every time we went to A&W I'd get the biggest my folks would allow, then beg for a second.

The photo above IS the original style drive in. You drove in nose-first under the canopy, where a single, huge hand-painted menu board was visible to all vehicles. After about five minutes, a carhop walked up, took your order, and delivered it to the main building. About ten minutes later, she brought all the food to the car on a tray that mounted on the edge of the window.

The glass mugs were for sale for 5 cents each.

The Root Beer in a frosted mug is pure heaven. I don't care for their burgers that much though. Their fries (along with BK's) are uneatable, that crispy coating they have on them is disgusting.

Their breakfast menu is the best, I'll have the Classic Bacon & Eggs, over easy, white toast and a hashbrown and coffee. We always stop off at the one in Winfield for breakfast on our way to YLW.

BTW, in regards to their "Burger Family", in this day and age, do you really think that the "Grandpa Burger" should have 3 beef patties on it? Me thinks grandpa should be watching his diet a bit better .....

Well I much prefer the Canadian chain Harveys over A&W. Though I don't hate the dub. I usually order papa with cheese and onion rings.

I never eat at A and W. If I do go I will take a root beer, which is actually quite expensive. $1.60 + tax for a small one!

We lived in Singapore back in the day and my Dad loves A&W Ropot Beer so each time I go up to Singapore I have to get some to bring back home. Obvioulsy we don't have A&W here in New Zealand and Root beer ain't that big in these parts either!

There's one in Auburn, about an hour away.
