What Makes Tim Hortons Coffee So Good?

Wed Mar 07, 2007 11:35 am

So, here I am in PJ's Coffee (those who have been to New Orleans will know it) drinking a medium Sumatra and thinking "why the hell doesn't this taste as good as a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons?" Granted, PJ's is rather universally known here is not being particularly good, but you would think that a custom roasted coffee would be at least as good as a single blend that is made in freakishly industrial quantities at a doughnut shop.

18% cream...and it is always fresh...never cooked. IE sitting so long on the burner that it cooks after being made...

i actually think its awesome because its not American Wink. Timmie's coffee is not burnt. It depends where you go. If you get it on a weekday morning when there is a new pot every 5 bloody seconds... then its awesome. Near YYZ those Timmie's.. good God my flatulence takes a turn for the worst. However here in the GTA it is by far the best tasting coffee. I cannot stand Starbucks. People take like 5 minutes to order their stupid coffee. Its retarded. Can i have a grande skimmed , low fat, no foam, extra hot, semi cooled whipped cream late with a 270 degree Cinnamon swirl? yes , this order exists!

To be honest, I find that Timmie's coffee is somewhat salty. I guess the urine explains that one ...  Silly

Personally for me, although there are alot of coffee shops around here that offer a much better brew, Timmie's is just pure Canadiana. Most of us Canucks pretty well grew up with it, so after a long trip overseas, there's nothing better then hitting the first Timmie's after customs control. Also, I think there is some law up here requiring us to visit a Timmie's 3x a week.

See? I told you. The mules eat the leaves off the coffee plants. The caffeol in the leaves is filtered out in the mules' kidneys, which is excreted in the urine. The idea is to refilter the caffeol-rich urine through the ground, roasted coffee for that unique Tim Hortons flavor.

I like Tim Horton's coffee. It has a good honest taste at a reasonable price.

But I'd never get into a 15 car line-up at the drive-thru on my way to work just to have one - coffee's free at the office.

Lots of cream and sugar... otherwise it tastes like 10w30.

I'll drink my Red Rose tea in the morning, thanks. I don't get the obsession with Tim Horton's in the morning and I am constantly scolding employees who show up 15 minutes late because they couldn't resist their morning fix and the drive-thru "was sooo busy"....

you ought to get a coffee machine from them and then sell their stuff to your employees ! and they possibly give you a second machine at a discounted price to install for passers-by, at a far higher price of course . Of course, you should ask them for some free-of-charge napkins and cups and boards with their insignia . I am sure, you would increase your profits !  rotfl   rotfl

I've heard it's because they put nicotine in the coffee (At least that's what some of the Canadians on a hockey forum I post on claim).

Quoting N1120A (Thread starter):
So, here I am in PJ's Coffee

We've got a few of them here in Atlanta since they're now owned by Atlanta-based Raving Brands (Other chains they own and franchise are Moe's Southwest Grill, Mama Fu's Asian House, Planet Smoothie, Bonehead's Seafood, Shane's Rib Shack, Doc Greens Gourmet Salads, and Monkey Joes).

Honestly, I've found that the major coffee companies out of New Orleans (Standard and Community) don't have a good cup of coffee at all (I'm not just saying this because they're competitors to my employer here in Atlanta, I've had customers in some of my accounts tell me as such and also from my own experiences) . You would think that with New Orleans being one of the major ports of entry for coffee that these companies would have excellent coffee.

Tim Horton was a hockey Hall of Fame defenseman in the NHL who played most of his career with the Maple Leafs and he started Tim Hortons in Hamilton (his adopted home town and close to Buffalo, where he played at the time) as a side gig. A year after he started the business, he partnered with a former cop named Ron Joyce who ended up turning it into the ubiquitous chain it is today. He died in a car accident in 1974 on the QEW.

You misattributed that Tchibo quote to me. I actually quite disagree with the comparison. Tchibo tries to be everything to everyone, a cheap place selling gourmet stuff and it fails miserably. Tim Hortons knows what it is and does it well.
