Marooned In London: Anyone Want To Meet Up?

Sat Mar 17, 2007 8:36 pm

Well, Boston and New York are socked in with heavy snow, canceling my flight and all flights to any nearby airports. Earliest they can get me out is the 5:55 pm flight on Monday night. I have no idea what to do, where to go, etc. If any London-area a.netters can help out by telling me where to go or what to do, or if you'd rather meet up, please let me know. I'm staying at the Grange City Hotel right at Tower Hill Station on the District Line. Thanks for any and all assistance!

I know where I'd go.... RAF Museum at Hendon (Tube will take you to within walking distance of the museum) or the IWM.

Quoting Texan (Thread starter):
I have no idea what to do, where to go,

Go see DeltaGulf at the Brooklands Aviation Museum in Weybridge. They opened her up to the public about a month ago.

There's also the Omani VC10 there as well
Or as ZANL188 suggested, the RAF Museum at Hendon

Or Duxford out near Newmarket, Cambs. Great place to regardless if you've been there or not.

Thank you for the suggestions! Didn't really feel like doing much aviation related, so went to the West End last night and caught "We Will Rock You," the musical based entirely on Queen songs. The story needed some work, but the music and singing were excellent.

Today I met up with Ben (a.netter) around noon and he showed me the sights in the touristy areas: Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, 10 Downing Street, the Texas Embassy, etc. We then took the Northern Line to Euston Station where we grabbed some food and met up with Kaz. The three of us spent the majority of the day together, grabbing lunch and drinks (yes, I did actually drink!), going shopping in Camden (the SLF likes shiny, dangling things and I, too, like shiny things and am an impulse shopper), and shooting the breeze while walking the streets and on the Underground. Kaz left us in the late-afternoon and Ben and I continued to come back to my hotel for a few, then going around the corner to the pub for more food and a pint. Just left company about half an hour ago. Thanks so much to both of them for taking time out of the day to spend time with a total stranger and help me out here in London! All a y'all rock!
