Nato Unhappy With Afghan Comander Dan McNeill..

Sun Mar 18, 2007 1:30 am

"U.S. Gen. Dan McNeill, commander of the 36,000-strong NATO-led force here, said Western troops were exchanging fire with Taliban fighters "in a number of areas" in southern Afghanistan but that many militants were fleeing the 5,500 NATO and Afghan soldiers participating in Operation Achilles"

While this reads like a normal status report about the involvment of Nato-Trops in southern Afghanistan,Nato in Brussels is less than happy with the offensive ,declared without consultation among Nato-comanders .
While other Nato-partners involved in the troop-set up in Afghanistan prefer a mixed approach, involving local police and security forces ,in order to gain local support from the Afghani population,McNeill started a massive offensive campaign regardless of local support or opinion.
This campain -operation Achilles- was in it's current style not approved by Nato HQ.

Sounds like he won't have the command for a longer period.
