Singers That Left This World Too Soon

Sun Mar 18, 2007 11:51 am

Just listening to one of my favorite songs with John Denver and "Mama" Cass Elliott, and started thinking of other singers that left us too soon in life. I bring to you "Leaving on a Jet Plane"

Where did everybody go?

Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley are two I would have seen play today. I often wonder how their talents would evolve.

I immediately thought of him too, but the more I thought about it, the more I think it was appropriate timing if there is such a thing.

Reminds me of the song by the Righeous Brothers where they immortalized, Otis Redding, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Bobby Darin, Janis Joplin, and Jim Croce.

http://www.tinkerddb.net/RockAndRollHeaven/

Jimmy gave us rainbows,
and Janice took a piece of our hearts,
and Otis brought us all
to the dock of the bay.
Sing a song to light my fire,
remember Jim that way.
They've only found another place
another place to play.

If you believe in forever,
then life is just a one-night stand.
If there's a rock and roll heaven,
well you know they've got a helluva band, band, band.

Remember bad bad Leroy Brown,
how Jimmy touched us with that song.
And time won't change the way
we used to know.
And Bobby gave us Mack the Knife,
look out, he's back in town.
They'll all be there together
when they meet in one big show.

Don't forget Kirsty MacColl, perhaps best known for singing "Fairytale of New York" with The Pogues. In 2000, she was swimming at a South American beach when a reckless speedboad driver ran her over. I really admired her voice and liked her work.

Isn't is strange that so many singers that died young did so when flying? In almost every case, it involved chartered aircraft, further compounded by bad weather, mechanical problems or overloaded. I would suggest it is a lot harder than normal, even for charter flights.

An Spanish singer called Nino Bravo.

He had great Spanish ballads dedicated to a girl called Noelia.

Sadly, he dead in a car traffic accident more than 35 years ago leaving a great hole in many woman (like my mother) who dreamed to be Noelia.

I have to disagree that Cash left the world too soon. True, his death was a great loss to the music industry, however he had been around for what 50 years? He left a mark on the business that nobody will be able to touch, ever. He was old, and "hurt" was sort of his way to pass the torch on to the next generation. It was just his time.

Now as far as too soon goes,

Dave Williams - Drowning Pool
Kurt Cobain - Nirvana
Layne Staley - Alice in Chains
Jim Morrison - The Doors
Brad Nowell - Sublime
Lynn Strait - Snot
