Time To Start Bashing The Red Sox

Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:05 pm

With Opening Day just around the corner, I can feel the bile rising in my throat as my thoughts turn to the classless, boorish team in that run-down hovel on Landsdowne Street.

After an off-season spent shamelessly copying the Yankees (you tour China? We'll tour China), spending obscene amounts of money in another futile attempt to buy a championship, and making weak excuses for the behavior of their paranoid schizophrenic left fielder, the Sox are about to take the field in the third season of their current 86-year failure streak.

So here's to the most irritating team in baseball! It'll be great when the pinstripes turn your teeny-tiny little bandbox into Yankee stadium East.

And How much does georgie spend to buy "talent"?

We seemed to do alright a couple years ago.. Then again, we dont buy our World Series rings...

The difference is, we actually get talent, not some mediocre right fielder with a longer injury history than Evel Kenievel and less pop than my breakfast cereal. We're so stacked, our third baseman has the best season of any in the league and we still get on him for having a shit year!

And as far as choking, there's a reason the Heimlich maneuver was invented in Beantown. Over almost all of the last century, the Schlox have made an art form out of tracheal blockage at critical times. Like last August, when the yanks came into your yard with the brooms, painted your stadium white and navy blue, and sucked the soul out of your playoff run. Hey chowds, here we go again!

So Curt Schilling and Keith Foulke magically appeared on your doorstep before the 2004 season, then?  Yeah sure

Let's dispense with this "buying rings" BS. For some reason, it's only bad when the Yankees do it. Heck, the Marlins sold their entire team after 1997, and they still don't get nearly the crap that the Yankees get. When the Yankees win, everyone says that it's proof that its all about the money. And when they lose, everyone says that it's proof that it's not all about the money. So which one is it? Does money matter, or doesn't it?

At least Yankee fans are honest about money's contribution to their team.

Way to go A-Rod... that will build respect....and as far as bandwagon fans, I've been a Red Sox fan since the early 1970's..... and I remember every bad moment since then and will never forget the greatest comeback in baseball sports history.

Man, all I see with that statement is A-Rod, Pavano, Damon, and Abreu. Not like you guys paid 5 bucks for all of them.

making weak excuses for the behavior of their paranoid schizophrenic left fielder,

Excuses? I'm wouldn't have been surprised if the Yankees got him instead of us. And it's not like you guys haven't had any problems. Look at whats happening to A-Rod. He's probably gunna leave after the season anyway.

Quoting LHMARK (Reply 2):

It's not talent if the team can't meld together to win a ring.

And there are some other players you guys have picked up, Pavano, Jaret Wright, Kevin Brown for example, who you guys bought and got pretty much nothing with.

Did your guys forget to tie him down to the team bus roof or something, leaving him lying on the NJ Turnpike or what?

Next question; How's that farm system doing anyways? Any good talent there?

Unfortunetly, and I kill myself as I say this, they do have better talent in their farm system. There's a couple pretty good pitchers that will come out of there, all this coming from the biased YES network.

Hopefully you are asking about the Yankee's farm system.

George spends TONS of money on talant. The thing is, the Red Sox front office, players and fans all bitched and moaned about the Evil Empire and how much money they spend. Ironically though, the Red Sox payroll is about 20 million away from the Yankees. And that doesn't include the 51 plus million spent just to negotiate with Dice-K. Wait until the Sox trade for a closer and pick up Todd Helton and that payroll soars past the Yankees. Here is your new Mascot Chowd Honk. Evil Empire my ass...

Okay, for the record I'll post this:
Top 15 MLB Payrolls for 2006
1 New York Yankees: $195,834,779
2 Boston Red Sox: $121,246,424
3 Chicago White Sox: $102,750,667
4 New York Mets: $102,091,323
5 Los Angeles Dodgers: $99,120,015
6 Chicago Cubs: $96,424,499
7 Los Angeles Angels: $95,472,000
8 Houston Astros: $92,551,503
9 Atlanta Braves: $90,136,876
10 San Francisco Giants: $89,669,419
11 St. Louis Cardinals: $88,891,371
12 Philadelphia Phillies: $87,923,333
13 Seattle Mariners: $87,628,833
14 Detroit Tigers: $82,612,866
15 Toronto Blue Jays: $79,915,000

I'm not sure if that's last year of this coming season. I assume he meant this coming season as the 2006 season was "only" $120 million, still good enough for second place in the annual payroll.

Quoting Cadet57 (Reply 26):

That's no secret and I dont deny it. But the Red Sox are still guilty of the same thing you get pissed at the Yankees for doing: spending a shitload of money for talent. I mean spending $51 million just for the rights to negotiate with someone, but the Yankees are the ones who spend too much to buy talent. Oooook.

Get off Ortiz. While I might be a very rich man right now, I get paid by the pound and don't want to start losing income.

Signed, Ortiz's personal chef

I think President Bush and Dick Cheney are doing an awesome job. Mission Accomplished!

would have read what LHMark said, he said that the Red Sox were 3 years in on their CURRENT 86 year streak without a World Series Win. A streak that started in 2005. Look up next time as it goes soaring over your dome.

Huh?  confused
KstateinALB said "Ahem. World Series in 06". I was responding to that. Neither the Red Sox nor the Yankees were in the 2006 World Series, so I don't know what this thread would have to do with that.

Again.. very sorry for the misunderstanding I made before.

I think Dice-K is going to do pretty well. I'm not saying it just because I'm a Red Sox fan, but he has looked good in the games (yes i know, spring training), and has been going along in his progress very well. He will do a good job, I can tell.

I can't wait for Dice-K to get lit up by Tampa Bay.

At least we know he'll be better than Kaz Matsui.

His first at bat was that HR against the Braves. And then it was just all downhill from there.  Wink

KROC, let's be honest here. By some unknown law of the universe, the AL East gets lit up by Tampa Bay every year. Why? I have no idea.
Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

This is true, however, Chowd Honk will take it extra hard when their second coming gets lit up!

Hey Mike, do the Mets still have Julio Franco?

If they got rid of him, I don't like their chances.

Julio is in the last year of his 2 year contract. Too bad for the Braves. He would be their best option at first this year if he was still there.  Wink

I've got news for fans of the Yanks and Red Sox: The AL is no longer a two-team league.

The AL central is the best and most balanced division, with four teams capable of 90-win seasons. And the Tigers pennant last year was no fluke. They will be back this year and in future years. They also have the best home uniforms. So there.
Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!
