New Printer Advice

Mon Mar 19, 2007 2:24 am

Hello,

My fairly new Hewlett Packard multifunction machine (all-in-one printer, scanner, copier, and fax) died, ironically just past the warranty period, and this is the third HP multifunction in three years. Their support sucks just as much as their products, and its about time that I've said, screw HP.

I need some advice on a new multifunction machine. Does anybody have a brand of printer (or multifunction, scanner, copier, etc) that they have had exceptionally good service and reliability with, and would recommend?

Keep in mind this has to be a multifunction machine, that can cope with heavy use.

Thank You,

I like Canon, but mainly because Ink is pretty cheap and generally they work well with any print server. Unfortunately Ive only had three Canon printers none of which has given me any grief, but not enough to say they are a godsend.
Nonav.com kinda like Whiners except the lights are on and the pimps been paid

I have a Canon all-in-one laser that I got on sale at Staples for about $200; I think the regular price is around $300. I''ve had no problem in about a year. The cartridges aren't that bad in price. I use it alot, but not excessively. It's a flatbed type. The fax works fine on my VOIP line, as well as my regular line. I've heard some don't work right on VOIP. I like that, because I have two numbers on one line for VOIP and I can set the distinctive ring for the fax. For the price, I think I got a great deal. $200 is less than an extended warranty on some models....

Google everything. I recently was given a Brother all in one because one function didn't work. When I tried to fix it, the google results backed my experience, their products are crappy. Research is the key.

Canon, Brother or Epson are your best choices. Avoid Lexmark and HP at all costs. Lexmark is exorbitantly expensive as is, and HP tends to have the cartridges with the fewest ink of all manufacturers (lowpoint: 3.5ml for 363 Magenta).
Epson usually is the cheapest option, as they are the ones for which there are the most alternative cartridges out there. With Brother, unlike Avt007 I've made the experience that they are both reliable and cheap to maintain. I've had many customers whom I told to get a Brother, and so far they all have been very satisfied with them. Canon used to have the cheapest cartridges by far, but that has stopped with the IP4200 family. But if you don't mind switching contact parts from cartridge to cartridge, they are still a good option.
