Today Is My 'daddy' Anniversary

Tue Mar 20, 2007 1:36 am

Yes, indeed, it was 7 years ago today that I first became a 'daddy', the day we welcomed Fabiola into this world.

I remember very clearly that Sunday, when I came into work that day, and soon thereafter my wife called and told me that her water had broken. It was sunny, we had slept plenty, got to the hospital at 4:30pm, and she came into this world at 9:20 pm that night.

How time flies!

So her celebrations start tonight, with her request for a filet mignon and lobster dinner at her grandparents house and her birthday party next Sunday and the skating rink. I promise myself I won't get hurt, like I did at my son's birthday party.

Under all circumstances, my wife has had 'pleasant' (word used by her father) deliveries. After all, with her we were only in the hospital for 5 hours before she gave birth. It was going so quickly, that almost no one got there in time, including the doctor.

My son was induced, so we were in the hospital for a while. Once the doctor punctured the water, it was an hour till he came. Of course, she dilated so quickly that she suffered thru 5 minutes of intense pain. But once my son was ready to come, it was very quick. And the doctor did something for her that I recommend to others:

He told her to grab him (he was already partly out) and take him out herself! And she did! And I got a 'non-pornographic' picture of the event! All she did was reach down (the doctor helped), grabbed him, and out he was. She really cherishes that moment and we are looking forward to doing the same soon.

Congrats, proud papa! Big grin

You're not planning to get her one of these, are you?  Wink

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Las Vegas for the entire family starting April 1! And indeed, part of it is because both like travelling. But Jr. is actually packed and ready to go!

I can understand why many years ago fathers were not allowed in the birthing room. But no, I have never had a problem watching them being born. I do have one rule, once the babies are crowning (top of the head showing up) I get to be the first one to touch them.

Interesting tastes for a 7 year old. Then again, I was a big Sizzler fan back then.

Congrats on your "daddy" anniversary. You should be happy, seeing as daddy gets all the good parts (impregnating mommy and playing with the kids) and none of the pain of childbirth  bigthumbsup

Doesn't that usually depend on who "mommy" is? I haven't been able to be a mommy yet, but I've heard plenty of horror stories from different people I know who have had kids. They sure felt the pain when their wife or girlfriend was pregnant....

Believe me, men are the forgotten sufferers in this play. After all, the pregnant woman gets all her needs catered for. For example, if she is tired, everyone tells her to rest. But with the two kids already present, dad's job is to allow her to rest while he has the kids.

I know, you wouldn't even get me to try lobster till much later on, but she likes seafood, including squid.

At least mom is! They have both picked up my bad habits well.

But I recall a story about her exquisite taste.

Way back when she was a little baby, grandpa went to a fairly cheap store to buy her clothes. As mom and grandma tell the story, they took her back to the cheap store to exchange the clothes and buy her something more of their liking. She kept crying while there. Finally the decided to take her to Macy's to buy her clothes, and she was all smiles while there.

My comment for her future is this: Pity the man who gets to marry her!

Then again, she is in this way like her mom, so her husband and I can commiserate together, much like I do with my father-in-law...

Which fish are you referring to?  innocent

Don't even get me going on her like of seafood. I grew up on the coast, where fresh fish meant it was caught that morning, and I don't recall liking seafood the way she does now.

No kidding. After my son's birth last September, I was telling everyone it was the most exhausted I'd ever been from doing relatively nothing. My amazing half delivered on her knees after a great deal of pain making the effort on her back, and the josanpu urged me in fervent Japanese to grab hold of my wife and let her use me as an anchor for the final push. I'd never seen so much blood but it was almost immaterial when I saw my son in the josan's hands. There are no words for that joy.
