Never watched one single show ever... really don't know. Though, Carrie Underwood was seen getting on a jetBlue flight here in BNA yesterday

It is kind if sad that this really isn't a true talent contest as it is a popularity (for better to worse) contest. That is too bad. There is some serious kick ass talent out there that is being overshadowed by a few (ok, one) not so good.

Blake - great to look at and great voice.
Melinda - The new American Idol.
Chris - all yours FSDPDC.
Kiki - runner up and will get some sort of contract with someone.

I'd venture a guess there's far more money in it for the producers from the TV show, tours, and other ancillary revenue than there is from selling a million CDs by the winner of the show.

But anyone with real talent, regardless if they're the winner or not, will go onto something great. Jennifer Hudson is just one example--she was the 6th of the top 12 to be voted off in Season 3. What has Fantasia Barrino done in comparison? Not much.

That's bullshit. You obviously haven't seen Leona Lewis - this years winner from the UK. She was working behind a desk in an office before this.

That is entirely an opinion. But since Sanjaya is still on, and people like Sundance and Stephanie are off, that is still viable.

This thread is about American Idol, as in the US, we do not get other Idol shows (those possibly being true talent), the UK version is relatively unknown. By all means start a thread about UK Idol. If it were shown here, there'd be more to talk about. It's all good.

Since people text their votes (voting multiple times at that), popularity (for better or worse) plays a huge part. How is that talent?

I pretty much agree, but I'd add Jordin. Any of those 5 *could* sneak in and be the American Idol. My power rankings look like this:

1) Melinda
2) Blake
3) Lakisha
4) Jordin
5) Chris

But then again, I had Stephanie at 6, and Sabrina Sloan at 7 once upon a time, with Blake not making the top 10. (Season of Loving made me a believer.)

She's starring on Broadway. That's pretty damn good! It just doesn't give the exposure of a movie. Jennifer Hudson might be the most successful Idol contestant of all time because of that one movie.

People that are calling in to vote for Sanjaya in an effort to rig the competition are amongst the lowest of people. I can't for the life of me figure out why grown adults would partake in such an incredibly childish and moronic exercise. Those people that are willing to tie up their own phone line for hours on end to vote for a guy they admit has no talent is not only a show of utter immaturity but makes me wonder why these people don't have better things to do with their lives.

It is also dispicable that these people who are rigging the vote have absolutely no care about the person whose life thery are messing with. Sanjaya is a 17 year old kid, and because of these jerks, he continues to be panned and ridiculed instead of sent back home where he can just be a kid. The people who are rigging should be ashamed.

Good point.

The whole show is rigged anyway. It's a ridiculous waste of aire time IMO.

But whatever, if someone gets their jollies by spending time on the phone for this silliness, then so be it.

Can't see it from my living room, what do I care . . . . Gotta wonder tho? How many folks out there really do that?!

Took me perhaps 15 minutes to enter 100 votes last week. Anyone who'd be calling me that late would probably try to IM me first anyway to see if I was up.

At 17 you are closer to an adult than a kid. In less than a year, he will be able to vote and serve his country. Not really a kid. He willingly entered this contest, as a result, he knows what is to possibly happen. This isn't the first season. He knows full well what is expected. All the good, bad and ugly.

Now tonight's show, can't wait to see Gwen. Wonder if Blake will beatbox one of her hits? Better yet, will Sanjaya go platinum blonde in honor of Gwen there?

6-7 votes per minute x 15 minutes give or take. I have redial. Do the math. Now stop trolling. It's distasteful. It's not your place to make a judgment call if 15 minutes of my time doing something which concerns you not is noble.
