Urban?? There's little "urban" about Denver. Maybe urban sprawl.

When I first moved here, Austin and Portland were tied for first as the Slacker Capitals of the US. But these top 5 couldn't be more disparate!

Hmmm...maybe it's because I live on the Kansas side of KC, but...most all of the Missouri suburbs are horrible...the Kansas ones, like Overland Park, Lenexa, and Leawood, are tons better.

Nyack, NY (New York City)

I live 15 minutes from Nyack and I've driven through it many, many times. Honestly, I fail to see what makes Nyack in particular so special. It's just like all of the other suburban towns around it right near the border of New York and New Jersey.

You can find adventures anywhere...but I have been to Orlando several times, most recently in November, and I fail to see how you can "embrace urban life" there.

The category was "Sunniest Places". Seeing as how El Paso is in that desert part of Western Texas, I have to imagine they see a lot of sun.

That category was "Best commuter towns". I presume the journalists who wrote this article anaylized several cities and found from a commuter standpoint Nyack is a great city for commuting to NYC.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with these anaylsis, but some of these questions could be answered by simply looking at the category.

I'm just surprised cities like Honolulu and Miami didn't place in any of these categories.

The category was "Best Sunniest Places"...it's sunny, yes, but there is no "best" about El Paso...there are plenty other sunny places that are much, much better.

Apparently they left off "best places to smoke crack," with the top spot on the list quite clearly being the Men's Journal offices...

The scenic drive to the east towards Reno doesn't start until you pass through Auburn, which is pushing it. As for the scenic drive to the west towards San Francisco, well that never really begins, because there is no useful scenery for the most part.

My only guess could be the plethora of biking and walking trails along the Sacramento and American Rivers.
