visit the temple by the bloke. Its over 100 years of building and its still not compleate
That would be La Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi ?
Hard to be found in the Balearic Islands as well as in the Canary Islands, even though a few ruins can be found (but these hardly are worth a special trip).
These best can be visted in Tunisia (and some more places), but that might be out of scope for this trip ?!
In case you want to stay on the Iberian peninsula, there are at least two options:
1. The area around Tarragona / Salou about 80 km south of Barcelona: Some ruins can be visited in Tarragona. In nearby Salou and Cambrils on Costa Dorada ( Costa Daurada you will find a full-scale seaside resort extending from one town to the other.
In Salou there is Funpark Port Aventura.
If you get a rental car, take a daytrip down into the River Ebro's delta; depending on time of the year, big swarms of birds can be seen here.
The nearby town of Amposta has some old buildings too and can serve a spot for dinner.
For personal reasons, I rule out recommending the beach resorts north of Barcelona to you (Lloret de Mar and the likes).
Second option would be to visit the Noth coast of Spain with Bilbao / Bilbo serving as a starting place.
However, this very interesting area definitely is too cold for a Texan to serve as a Beach vacation.
