Depending on when school gets out here (when my last final is), I might be driving up that way, and I'd be happy to make a stop.

Not sure if I'll be in town but make sure you visit the Georgia Aquarium and spend less time at World of Coke. Completely skip Underground Atlanta (next to World of Coke) as it is worthless, seedy, and nothing but a chintzy tourist trap souvineir mall.

Actually, the World of Coca-Cola will be closed from April 7-May 24 in preparations for the move to the new location adjacent to the Georgia Aquarium.

I'll be landing in ATL at 18:30 on March 2nd and then driving to BHM shortly thereafter. If any of you are waiting to depart around that time, let me know and we can at least say hello for a few minutes.

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 5):

Absolutely. This aquarium is really a gem. Be prepared for some TSA-style screening before you enter, though. As for parking, there's a lot near the garage that's $10, but if you go another couple of hundred feet down the street, there's another one that's $5.

If you want the full Atlanta experience, be sure to get on I-85 North at around 5pm.  Wink

I thought the aquarium was kind of a let down, but I had a free ticket so no loss. I would still recommend seeing it once. Be sure to check out Georgia Tech, I might be around...(it really is a nice campus though, right downtown).

If you like art at all, check out the High Museum, it's great!

To be quite honest there really isn't much to do in ATL compared with other major cities. It's kinda sad actually...

I was going to highly recommend Six Flags, but I looked at the schedule and they're closed both days.
Don't know if it would interests you Yirina77, but the Carter Presidential Library is another option.
Underground Atlanta is worth checking out too. If you're into theater/performing arts, I highly recommend going to the Fox Theater for a show.

Other options outside the ATL area include Lookout Mountain up in Chatanooga (as well as the Tennessee Aquariam there).

If you're a NASCAR fan, consider heading out to the Atlanta Motor Speedway for a tour (South/Southeast of the city).

Underground Atlanta is worth checking out too.

That is if overpriced tourist trap malls are your sort of thing. Now that the World of Coca-Cola is leaving in a week, Underground is going to die again. The attempts at turning it into a nightclub district yet again has failed because folks aren't going to make the drive downtown to an area that is perceived to be unsafe. The city went as far as to include a loophole in the law changing the bar closing hours a few years back that excluded Underground from the new closing hours (A bit of a conflict of interest since the City owns Underground.). There have been folks suggesting putting a casino in @ Underground, which isn't going to happen since it would take a state referendum to approve casino gambling and with the "Two Georgias" (Atlanta and the rest of the state), folks aren't going to vote for something that benefits Atlanta only.

Oh yea, eat a meal at the Varsity.  biggrin  Can't go to Atlanta without eating there.

There's probably a few things to do in Macon as well, but certainly there are more (and better) things to do in ATL Metro area.

Stone Mountain Park

 checkmark
When time is limited, Stone Mountain Park is one thing that really should be considered. A walk up that rock should be the most favourite thing to do there ... (even I was able to manage this on a single Sunday off work).

So, what is the plan to do and on which exact date ?
I will have to return home (to Germany) out of IND on 03-May, but might be able to come to Atlanta for a day ...

The ATL isn't Vegas..... Now if LHMARK or CastleIsland were there, then perhaps they might do it. We're talking about a Tuesday or Wednesday night to boot.

The first will be a bit tough for me to really do anything as that's my longest route day, but the 2nd works for me in regards to my work schedule for that day and the next day.

I'm pretty serious about it. I might even fly up if one of my roommates will share the cost.
