I used to love watching Smackdown & Raw on Friday & Saturday nights (back when it was unscensored on sky sports), but I stopped shortly after they started that whole invasion crap.

I must confess though I have SD vs Raw '07 for my X360, I also tune in occasionally when I see it on. I could get into TNA wrestling I guess, just that 6 posted ring is a bit wierd.

Might tune in for Wrestlemania

I watch Raw every week and I love it. Its just fun. I haven't watched Smackdown in forever though. I used to DVR it, but then I would just end up with 10 Smackdowns to catch up on. I don't pay for the PPV's, but I do look forward to the results and such. Mania this year should be a good show though. I thought about getting it, but its also opening night for MLB and my favorite team and my wife's favorite team are playing each other, so we'll be watching that.

I used to watch it, but over the past few years I got rather tired of it. I still tend to buy the wrestlemania DVDs from time to time though...

RE: WWE Wrestling - Anyone Else Enjoy It?

Been watching wrestling all my life. My buddy's rib me to no end about it because I'm a wrestling encyclopedia. I even have a little pro wrestling training myself. It's always fascinated me for as long as I can remember.

I religiously tune into Raw, although I have to admit it's been getting stale. Every so often tho they turn out a good program. ECW is an abortion now, it's only worth watching to see new talent, and some older, good workers. But there's nothing extreme about it. It's a F'n joke. EC F'n joke. Smackdown is for 10 year olds. Batista is like watching paint dry.

Anyway, great post. Here's my take one WM23:

World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. Undertaker

Prediction: Undertaker all the way

Each Royal Rumble winner has gone to WM and won a title. Taker is 14-0 and Batista wont be the one to break that streak. Plus if WWE knows what's good for Smackdown, they'll give it to the taker.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels

Prediction: Michaels

Cena is getting stale. If he does hold the title, watch for a heel turn.

Battle of the Billionaires

Prediction: Lashley, no question

"Good guys" tend to win at WM, and there's no way they'll make Trump shave his head. I see this one coming a mile away.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Orton vs Kennedy vs Finlay vs Mat Hardy vs Jeff Hardy vs Booker vs CM Punk vs Edge

Prediction: Orton

I see a face push coming for him, maybe against a heel Cena. People are already cheering for him. I wouldn't be surprised in CM Punk gets it either. I'd put the odds of winning at 50% for Orton, 25% for Punk, 20% Edge and the rest 1%

ECW Originals vs. New Breed

Prediction: Originals

In this joke of a match (it's not even a hardcore match, but hopefully that's how it's gonna wind up) Dreamer, RVD, Sabu, and Sandman take it based on the "faces always win at WM" theory.

Women's Champion Melina vs. Ashley

Prediction: Ashley

This is the new Trish vs Lita. Both girls can go, and they both can draw heat / pops. I'm a big Melina fan, she's got a great character and sells it well.

Kane vs. The Great Khali

Prediction: Kane (if anyone gives a shit)

United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP

Prediction: MVP (as much as I hate to say it)

My head says MVP, but my heart says Benoit, since he's been my favorite wrestler for years. It's a damn shame they are moving away from his "era" where actual wrestling was back, and the focus was off the jacked up freaks like Batista and Lashley.

Anyway, that's my call. I'll be watching Sunday, check back to see if I'm right.  Wink

Yes I love it with a passion. I have been to 5 lve events in the last 3 years including this past Monday Night Raw here in Chicago 3/26/07. I went to Wrestlemania 22 last year as hell. I even got my grandfather into it.

I can't wait for Mania and if Undertaker looses WWE headquarters will get a visitor!

I mean WWE gives me something new everyweek, no re-runs, no off season, and get drama to boot. I like it!

World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. Undertaker

Prediction: Undertaker - His last hurrah and to go out on a high.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels

Prediction: Cena - just.

Battle of the Billionaires

Prediction: Lashley - will hammer Umaga into the ground no question. He's bigger, harder, faster, tougher, and much, much fitter - Umaga will get his ass handed to him.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Orton vs Kennedy vs Finlay vs Mat Hardy vs Jeff Hardy vs Booker vs CM Punk vs Edge

Prediction: Mr Kennedy - I'd like to see Edge do it again as he's my favourite wrestler, but I cant see any further than the Loudmouthed one.

ECW Originals vs. New Breed

Prediction: Originals

Women's Champion Melina vs. Ashley

Prediction: Melina.

Kane vs. The Great Khali

Prediction: Kane - I give a s**t!

United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP

Prediction: Benoit should tear him to pieces - no way should MVP beat him. I feckin' hope not.

Like a lot of people here, used to love it but now the storylines are a bit too OTT and they try too hard to sexualise the whole thing. Used to be a lot more like good honest comic-book style fun.

We hosted them all in a hotel I worked in once, was great fun!!

Lots of sharps disposal units requested for the rooms though!!

I watch what I can get. Only Smackdown is shown on free-TV in Germany, and only one hour per week. Everything else is on Pay-TV, and at times when I have to work, though working at a family business tends to have it's advantages  Wink .
As for WM23, I'm looking forward to it, but as I have posted on other boards, if WWE lets that roided egomaniac Batista end Taker's undefeated streak, I'll be flying to Stamford, CT and with likeminded fans will burn down Titan Towers  devil .
As for the matches, my predictions:
Tista vs Taker:
Taker, if only for the well-being of the Titan Towers

Cena vs Michaels:
Cena, because is invincible (at least according to WWE creative)

BotB:
Lashley, though I really couldn't give a sh!t about this one

MITB:
Even though I want Punk to win, I'd expect a win for MIIISSSTTTTEEEEERRRRR KENNEDY!

KENNEDY!

ECW Soon-to-be-fired anyway Originals vs Talentless New Breed
Originals (and I expect Punk to somehow get involved)

Kane vs Khali
Kane (with the hope that Kane legit uses the hook to rid us all of the Punjabi Killing Maschine)

Benoit vs MVP
Benoit, MVP is simply not ready yet

Melina vs Ashley
Melina, because Ashley can't wrestle for sh!t.

Taker is a joke. He doesn't sell for opponents and he acts like he should never lose a match, much less be on the receiveing end of an outburst of punishment. I'm not a big Batista fan, but I'm sick and tired of the Undertaker. He should have retired about 4 years ago.

Taker might not sell, but he's still a capable wrestler. Just think of his feud with Krazy Kurt, or heck, he even managed to get decent matches out of Mark Henry. As far as his retirement goes, that will happen sooner than later, but at least he should be given one last title reign before he retires. After all, he hasn't really collected many heavyweight titles in his long career, unlike other folks like HBK, HHH, Rocky or SCSA.

I agree, totally no interest here, and it'll be a shame if they let this be the final match. This one is so predicable it's not even funny.

What do you know? Are they really gonna let them go? God just when you think they've fuct up ECW the worst.  Yeah sure

I wouldn't know if I'd call the New Breed talentless. Burke and Stryker have the compete package. Thorn has some skills, but not talking is hurting him. The other guy...I can't think of his real name, which says a lot.

Quoting CHRISBA777ER (Reply 8):
Women's Champion Melina vs. Ashley

Quoting DAL767400ER (Reply 10):
Melina vs Ashley
Melina, because Ashley can't wrestle for sh!t.

I don't know about that, Ashley can go, but there's no doubt Melina is the most talented (save for Mickie James) I just don't see any way around Ashley winning this. She's coming off a huge push, and these two are arguably the most talented, and the most likely to pull off a long term feud. Melina will win it back, but the "faces always win at WM" theory holds here.

I'm a huge Kane fan, don't get me wrong, but this is gonna be a popcorn match. Kahali is painful to watch, and another reminder of why WWE has been so stale lately.

I really hope I'm wrong about this one, but SmackDown is in bad shape, and they need more top contenders. A win here puts MVP in that category. The usually give a heel one match at WM, and I think this is the one.

Taker cannot wrestle. His reprotior of moves is about as extensive as LHMark's subafed excuse for why he acted like an ass at the pub the night before. While I like the dead man gimmick, to return to it after being the American Badass (while it was cool originally) just isn't working. I mean with a flick of the switch, he is all supernatural again? Come on. Taker is all gimmick and very little skill...at least these days.

The face always wins theory is usually only given to the Heavyweight title. HHH is the only Heel who ever left Mania with the HW Title. As far as the chicks go. Melina has a LOT of skill (to match that a LOT of rack she sports   ) and Mickey James is another capable female...the rest are pretty sad. Wendy Richter is probably pissed! I haven't seen enough of Ashley in ring to make an accurate comment on her skills.

I like Kane as well, and its about time they stop making him get beat all the time. Plus Kahali just sucks. Big men like that don't belong in wrestling only because I have a hard time believing that pretty much anyone would be able to beat them.

Ashley can wrestle, they just really haven't been using her a lot in that capacity. She had pro training even before the diva search. She can put together a decent match, and since there's a good amount of heat w/ this feud, it might actually make this one watchable.

Melina, Ashley, Mickie, and Victoria can go. Jillian isn't bad either. Torrie and Maria show some skill sometimes but will never be taken seriously, and I've heard Finlay is really working with Candice. I think Michelle has a lot of potential too. The rest are just hood ornaments.

I was wondering why they only have 8 matches this year. Then it dawned on me that it's gonna take Khali 45 minutes to walk down to the ring.

In all seriousness, no tag team title match, with all the good tag teams they have? London & Kendrick, Cryme Time, MNM, Benjamin and Haas, Murdoch and Cade, Highlanders? Not even a fatal four way? Sad.

The WWE fails terribly at 2 things. Properly using cruiserweight wrestlers and pushing the tag team division. The cruiserweights can be phenomenal and they can do moves that most can only dream of. The WWE is always worried about injury which is respectable, however the product suffers because of it. As far as tag teams...its been a long time since the tag division was any good. Murdoch and Cade suck. However with the influx of the Highlanders and Cryme Time, I thought they were going to try and revamp the division. Instead, CT and the Highlanders haven't been on TV in weeks and Cena and Michaels are tag champs. I hate when they do crap like that.

-WWE is p!ssed at Sabu's backstage behavior, like falling asleep, and of course botching quite a few of his moves (and while I'm a Sabu mark, I gotta say he is getting painful to watch)
-RVD is still p!ssed at WWE for being held back (though it was his maryjane-influenced driving that caused him to be dropped anyway), and his contract is up soon, and TNA is waving with big money
-WWE supposedly doesn't like the Sandman too much either due to backstage and on-screen behavior
-And TD was already "downrated" to a road agent before the return of ECW, so while he might not be let go, I doubt he'll contiue to be an active wrestler for too long, or he'll become a perma-jobber alongside Stevie Richards...

I never liked RVD and don't get what other people like about him...other than he caters to the blunt burners. If he would put that shit down, maybe he would develop a personality. Plus all his matches are more predictable than Brett Hart and his 5 moves of doom!

Another thing missing from wrestling these days are factions! Gone are the days of the 4 Horsemen and more recently the Nation of Domination, Evolution and DX (when they had more than 2 members).

That's chaffing my ass. All the tag teams they've had bust on the scene big time, and then get dropped. I saw a huge upside for the Highlanders as the new age Bushwackers....and Cryme Time had titles all over them. WWE has too much talent and not enough TV time.

Sabu and RVD did it to themselves, no question. Sandman is a shell of his former self, but all three can make a hardcore match (if WWE would allow it, I mean, God forbid, it is ECW after all) I really feel bad for Dreamer, cause he can work his ass off. I was happy to see him win that battle royal a few weeks ago. I was hoping they'd push him up...guess not.

You might know, why did WWE drop the hardcore matches? It's like ECW is now a glorified farm territory.

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 21):
You might know, why did WWE drop the hardcore matches? It's like ECW is now a glorified farm territory.

Well, there's a reason ECW is being referred to as "Extreme Velocity" these days  Wink . Looking back at it, Vince only launched WWECW in hopes of making money off the hype around the two past ONS's, though he soon dropped that and turned WWECW into just another WWE brand. And IMHO, the only real good thing so far to have come out of this new ECW is CM Punk.
And the even sadder thing is:
As much as ECW sucks, it still continues to have better ratings than IMPACT Big grin .

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 21):
He's a one move wrestler.

I wouldn't even call his POUNCE a move, more of a glorified football tackle. Heck, Edge's spear look more believable than this.

WWE has too much talent and not enough TV time.

This is a good point. I would almost consider making Raw a 3 hour show, but that might start being too much. I think the separation of brands (Raw and Smackdown) is holding both brands down. They should go back to the way it was with one roster, one HW Champ, one set of tag champs etc. That way those that should be on T.V. will. CT while very stereotypical was funny and they could wrestle. They were a throwback to the teams of old. One big power guy, the other smaller and more acrobatic etc. ECW is a joke. I watched it for a couple weeks then turned it right off.

I also understand that with the WWE keeping 2 brands, they are keeping more talant away from TNA and any other competitor that might emerge. Competition is what makes the business. Right after WCW folded, the WWE got complacent. TNA sucks. I used to watch them every week, and while some of the stuff is alright, overall its just 3rd class writing and story telling that helps hide the fact the wrestling is pretty good. Plus that 6 sided ring is lame.

They're moving in that direction. I read recently all the PPV's this year are gonna feature all three brands. You may have noticed a lot of cross overs lately too, tho there's no "inter-brand" match ups this year, save the girls match, if you want to count that.

I don't think their gimmick did them in. They were way over as faces despite having the heel-type gimmick. They will be back. Since all the tag teams kinda fell off at the same time, I think they will be alright. Also, Haas and Benjamin are a good team, but they need a make over because that Worlds Greatest Tag Team crap blows.

I think WWE needs to go back to one brand. I mean how many times can we watch London & Kendrick vs. Deuce and Domino. I also think Booker T need to stop the king stuff. It's getting old and stupid!

Im suprised no one mentioned this years WWE hall of fame inductees. The Wild Samoans, Jim Ross, The Original Sheik, Mr. Fuji, Jerry "The King" Lawler, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig , The "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, and Nick Bockwinkel. These guys bring back some memories. Does the WWE have a building in CT for the WWE hall of famers like baseball and football halls of fame? Or are they hall of famers in name only?

Not exactly. As much as I dispise TNA, at its end WCW was just so full of sh!t it makes current TNA look like a high-quality product. Just think of "The fingerpoke of doom", David Arquette World Champ, Russo's anti-Lucha/Japan attitude, backstage politics, etc.

And the sad thing is TNA actually had a good product. They had an X-Division that everyone was crazy about. But that didn't get PPV buys to rise, so they brought in big names, like Scotch Hall, Kevin "I tear my quads my getting up from the bed" Nash, "The Supernatural" Christ String, Big Roida Pump Steiner, and in recent memory Kurt "I need to rest my sore body. Oh wait, I feel fit to wrestle again and I don't even need pain meds" Angle. And now, TNA is about stupid gimmicks, holding back the X-Division, and a neverending plethora of gimmick matches, most notably the 3D-LAX feud, which so far has brought up around 4 or so new names for something that just used to be called a street fight.

Tru dat. Lawler is long overdue, and I was genuinely very thankful that they thought of JR, with all the BS they put him thru, and the twice he's almost died while being employed there. Watch them F that up and make him jerk off McMahon on Raw in a few weeks, or some type of humiliating non sense.  Yeah sure Dusty I had pegged this year. But I'm still questioning if Perfect did anything to garner the HOF. I just think there's guys that accomplished more.

WWE doesn't give a sh!t about making pretty girls actual wrestlers. Just look at Christy Hemme, she actually wanted to learn how to wrestle, and look where that got her. Or even Candice Michelle. Believe it or not, she is actively trying to become a good wrestler and be more than just the GoDaddy girl. And she's proven her toughness by continuing a match against Mickie IIRC, even after suffering a broken nose, something which would probably lead most of the other non-wrestling b!mbos to just run to the back.

Can't remember it exactly, been some time since I last took a look at it before it disappeared in a large mountain of paper (what can I say, I'm a messy), but it was something to the tune of "Thank you for your interest, blablabla, we're always looking for new creative minds, however blablabla ideas don't fit the product, blablabla, doubtful fans could be interested in that (my idea for a cruiserweight-only Velocity going head-to-head with TNA), blablabla, and your location could also prove a problem, yadda, yadda, yadda."

Though I think what killed it in the end was my idea to ban any McMahon family member, including HHH, from WWE television for at least one year. But hey, it was worth a try.

That's true, but man he's looking aweful lately. He's really showing his age. I thought he should have retired after that ladder match w/ Edge a few months ago on Raw. He put on one hell of a match in an old school Ric Flair way, and kept up with one of the top performers today. Now he's jobbing to Khali last week? Sad.

That would be a great idea, form a new 4 Horseman. As faces maybe: HHH, HBK, Benoit, and Finlay. As Heels: HHH, Orton, Edge, and maybe a rub for a new guy like Nitro or Dykstra.

Real wrestling died when they stopped showing matches in black-and-white. Today, it's just a well-scripted soap opera. I've always wondered how much wrestlers have to pay McMahon to be champion or whatever.

This was real wrestling:

(SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Man, I sucked the gasp pipe this year...3-5

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):
World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. Undertaker

Prediction: Undertaker all the way

checkmark  Kinda predictable, Taker rules and takes the title. No big shocks.

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels

Prediction: Michaels

thumbsdown  Cena wins it clean, which was kinda surprising. This was a solid match, good show by both guys.

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):
Battle of the Billionaires

Prediction: Lashley, no question

checkmark  Everyone saw this coming. McMahon looks so retarded bald! hahahaha...

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Orton vs Kennedy vs Finlay vs Mat Hardy vs Jeff Hardy vs Booker vs CM Punk vs Edge

Prediction: Orton

thumbsdown  Kennedy takes it, good call for those of you that picked him. Wicked ass spot with Jeff hardy and Edge. Edge might be hurt legit. My pick for match of the night!

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):
ECW Originals vs. New Breed

Prediction: Originals

checkmark  Not making this a hardcore match, made it a paint dry match.

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):
Women's Champion Melina vs. Ashley

Prediction: Ashley

thumbsdown  Melina pretty much controlled it. Poor showing by Ashley. The girls put together better matches on Raw.

Quoting B777-700 (Reply 6):
Kane vs. The Great Khali

Prediction: Kane (if anyone gives a shit)

thumbsdown  Kahli wins, and the WWE still doesn't get it. Who'd Kane piss off to keep getting buried?

United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP

Prediction: MVP (as much as I hate to say it)

thumbsdown  Benoit keeps it, and I'm glad I was wrong.

Over all, a solid show, but not great, tho better than the last two years. No really big surprises other then, I'd say, Cena winning it cleanly.

I used to be. I can remember the old days of the NWA/WCW, and the WWF 20 years ago. But to me, it's become almost obscene in many ways. If I want to see nude women, or almost nude, I'll watch Playboy Channel. I especially can't stand the overt sexuality in front of young children (and the adults who take them to those events with such overt sexual content).

I got into it for the wrasslin'. You know, with guys who weren't 'roided up freaks like you have today, guys like The American Dream Dusty Rhodes; Sting; Ric Flair; The Four Horseman, Hogan in his earlier days; The Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff; The Road Warriors.

I liked the wrestling, not so much profanity and sex as the sideshow.

It's not really like this anymore. That was about 7 years ago. Smackdown is very kid friendly. Raw really isn't that bad, and hell, ECW is watered down.

Uh huh. I peeked in on a show just last year, and one of the ladies fell out of her bikini top.

Sex sells. We all know that, and Mr. McMahon sure does.
