In 2005, Southern Baptists ended an eight-year boycott of the Walt Disney Co. for violating "moral righteousness and traditional family values."

Well look for it to be restarted!

While I'm not gay, I don't see why it would be a problem necessarily. It's kind of a weird thing anyway. I don't think I'd ever associate romance with Disney. Of course, I've always fantasized that all the guys in the world would turn gay and then I'd get my pick of the women!  drunk

Ok, that's a dream and I have a fine gf now so it doesn't matter. :P

Well being Gay I would not associate Disney with either Romance or someplace I want to ever go back to. I always thought it was an ideal place to decide to become Gay after spending hours with all those kids.

One thing for whatever reason Disney is big for weddings! Never understood that.

Cool, although a Disney wedding isn't exactly my style.

If this takes off, I expect the wedding chapels in Nevada will follow suit.

I'd have to agree about little kids...they're cute in groups of two at most, and they're even cuter when they're several yards away.

It certainly doesn't make much since...perhaps fantasies of Minnie Mouse?

I'm not dissing Disney, I think it's a good thing they're doing, but the question remains: Who the hell get's married at Disneyland anyway?!

for violating "moral righteousness and traditional family values."

9/10 divorced Southern Bapists, of which 7/10 had sex before marriage, believe gay marriage will turn kids gay. They base this claim that strait parents raise strait kids and the same principle must be true for homosexual couples who adopt children. Thus, it's best to keep praying to American Jesus for salvation.

Good question. Westy, whose "queer card" needs revoking b/c they got married at Disneyland?

I may not be the best authority on this, as any wedding invitations which note "Disneyland" as the locale are immediately shredded as junk mail. Now the Bel-Air Hotel is a completely different story.  Wink

I would say at LEAST 3 couples a day.

I'm Glad WDW is doing this, I'm just waiting to see what the 'gay days' tie in is.

I am glad to see Disney doing this. At the end of the day, gay marriage is not officially recognized in California or Florida so all that is really happening is two men or two women promising to love and honor each other until death do us part.

I am sure the religous conservatives will go nuts about this but it really has no impact on them. Whether you exchange vows at Disneyland or Walmart, the more important part is the committment and how you treat and care for each other everyday.

I just associate Disny with long lines for 'E' ticket rides (did I just show my age?).

Exactly. That or to use birth control.

I took this "The Walt Disney Co. had limited its Fairy Tale Wedding program to couples with valid marriage licenses, but it is now making ceremonies at its parks available to gay couples as well." to mean those with valid (regardless if they are recognised) licenses. Like mine.

A wedding at a Wal-mart is just plain tacky.

"Yeah, me and mah bride had our ceremony at the sporting goods section. We handed out packs of 50 caliber bullets as door gifts."

I seriously can't imagine a wedding taking place in Disneyland. It's like imagining a reception at McDonald's.

Aw c'mon - I can see a booming business for a certain segment of the gay population at the Country Bear Jamboree (though it might be embarrassing when one of the guests is mistaken for one of the animatronic performers!)

Whether Disneyland knows it or not (they must), there is a long and deep association.

Years ago, I went to an L. A. Aids Benefit at Disneyland. The park was closed to the public and it was a great night. Most of the population of Boystown and the Swish Alps seemed to be there, everyone dressed up for the occasion, with a fair number in their very finest frocks.

They used to show a 20 minute 3D movie - "Captain EO" - directed by Francis Ford Coppola, produced by George Lucas and starring Michael Jackson, out to save the world.

Every screening was packed, and everyone in the audience knew all the lines, chanting along with Michael Jackson (or cheering him on - "Tell it like it is, Michael!").

The 3D effects were great and led to that classic line "I thought Michael was coming straight at me!"

At one point, I was in the Dumbo ride with an older chum, who had had a encounter with a stranger the previous evening. It is an odd feeling to be soaring over Disneyland in a gondola shaped like Dumbo, while the chum described his antics with his one-nighter in lurid detail.

But the best was at the end. It was night, a sea fog was drifting in, surrounding the Enchanted Castle and music started to play over the loudspeakers.

Everyone knew the words and everyone joined in. It was really quite moving, to be standing among ten thousand people, many of them in drag, all singing and some with tears in their eyes - "When you wish upon a star" -

"...makes no difference who you are..."

 Smile

LOL! You know, I lived in L.A. long enough that every single last person I knew came by at least once to visit and wanted to go to Dizzyland. I adore the place, but I came to look at it as just too much hot, dry cement and asphalt, where I wouldn't want to go for a wedding.

I'd go again--I've never been to Disney World, and would love to go sometime, but for a wedding, no, I don't think so.

The wedding (any wedding for that matter) would be a mickey mouse event (pardon the pun).

Disney World in Florida is actually a HUGE wedding destination. Both for ceremonies and honeymoons, it's one of the top locales in the country. Yeah I'm biased as I'n a former Castmember; but I would love to have a Disney wedding; if only they weren't so damn expensive.

Believe me, WDW is lightyears better then DL. I miss it so much already.

If it was me, and I was indulging my S.O. to have a ceremony there, I'd insist it be in the Enchanted Tiki Room, with a beach party for the reception.  Wink There's just something about a tiki party that floats my boat.

Or better yet, when someone has a little too much to drink and mistakes one of the animatronic performers for a wedding guest...

Probably those who don't have the money for gambling and having a wedding in Vegas.  Wink

Personally, this is the first time I ever hear that there are weddings in Disneyland. I don't even want to know if they do weddings at Disneyland Paris as well (I'm a bit conservative when it comes to having my own wedding).

I guess for every tacky queen there is a tacky gay Disney wedding.

Personally, I prefer the Miranda Hobbes weds Steve, the bartender wedding myself. Find a small park in the middle of NYC, call 12 of your closest friends, say your vows in their presence for about 5 mintues, and then go have lunch and cocktails.
