I Wanna Join Hurricane Hunters

Mon Apr 16, 2007 11:44 pm

Ok, So as I'm sitting here, I've been contemplating on my history of failed jobs (that I never really liked), bad relationships, and wondering where my life is going to end up. So I've been thinking that I want to join the air force, and become a Hurricane Hunter. If that job wasn't available, I would want to go into Aviation Maintenance and work on military aircraft. Can any Air Forcers shed some light. All Military correspondence is welcome, but I don't feel like hearing Army's better, Navy's better, or Marines are better. I've set my sights on Hurricane Hunter, and the air. I know the Army is primarily land based operations, Navy is primarily underwater or aquatic operations, and the Marines...Well, I really don't know what they do. Anyway, so can anybody help me out here...

1. What do I have to do as far as signing up?
2. What tests do I need to take
3. I know boot camp is going to be tough shit, but can anybody provide insight as to what to expect?
4. Any other general information is welcome.

Meet all the requirements the military branch requires.

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
It ill give an idea what you qualify for in the military
You must also meet the minimum AFQT score

The Hurricane Hunters are not Active Duty, they are Reserves (53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron based out of Keesler AFB). I had my Tech School at Keesler, but it was in the winter, so no Hurricane Hunter activity to really speak off.

Buy an ASVAB Study Book. The higher you score on that test, the better off you will be when it comes to being able to pick your job. I actually scored pretty high and had the Air Force throwing jobs at me. I took weather which was why I joined anyway.

Basic Training. Its as much mental as it is pysical. Get yourself in shape physically and your time in BC will do the rest there. However prepare your mind as well. A lot of guys broke down in my Flight. While the Air Force doesn't have the rifle/bayonet training like say the Corp does, its still tough and can break down the strongest person.

Oh, as far as signing up, go see a recruiter or call one. That will be the only thing you need to do to sign up. The recruiter will take care of the rest.

I'm not a military expert, for sure, but I would imagine you'd need a really strong stomach to go up as a Hurricane Hunter.
