Language(Dutch) Imitation: Funny Video

Fri Apr 20, 2007 5:50 am

I have always wondered how people imitate French , English or Spanish when they don't know how to speak the language. I used to imitate Arabic, chinese ,russian just on the way it sounded like to me .
I have found this video of a French comedian (very popular) called Gad Elmaleh... he appears as a dutch guy and imitates Dutch..its sounds very dutch to me though I know my fellow dutch a.netters will find that ridiculous and by no means think it sounds like Dutch. It could also sound like Swiss German
It would be nice if you could share with us any video you have found where people try to imitate a language... would love to see how for eample they imitate french,

No offense however to my fellow dutch A.netters

Cheers

BM

Sounds Swedish to me.

As for the "comedian", there's a reason the French didn't have a word for "humour" until the English gave them ours. I see no reason why the French need to try and start being funny now.

French doesn't sound like that though the imitation is still funny
The Spanish with the ththth was well done though we Latin american's don't speak that same way
The Swedish was funny
The Italian and Chinese was hilarious

To each his own  Wink

There are some Québécois humourists that I've seen that are pretty funny. But the thing about humour is that it's often a cultural thing. I'd say that humour, more than most aspects of speech, more apt to get lost in translation. Something that just doesn't get across the cultural gap. I know some of my Québécois friends don't find English humour very funny. So, it's definitely something that goes both ways.

First understand French and then we'll see who's funnier. honestly French comedies are just amazing an honestly cannot be translated into english since French love playing with words .And there are many classics in French cinema like La Grande Vadrouille, Rabbi Jakob, le dîner de cons.... there again its hard to translate into English and I tink that's why people don't find it funny, but honestly its just AMAZING

It indeed sounds more like a Scandinavian language then Dutch. But most Dutch do have a terrible accent in French. They're a bit better in English, just a bit...  Wink

I am exposed and understand humour from the walloons, the flemish, the dutch, the british, the australians, the americans, the french, the french-canadians, the germans, they are all funny in their own way and it is ridiculous to compare.
