O'Donnell Leaving 'The View'

Wed Apr 25, 2007 11:41 pm

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rosie O'Donnell's stormy tenure on "The View" will be a short one. The opinionated host was unable to agree on a contract with ABC, and she'll leave the show in June.

"My needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me," O'Donnell said in a statement Wednesday.

I wonder if the contract dispute had anything to do with the amount of toilet paper ABC was willing to provide?  duck

I'm a little concerned this morning, because I agree with you, but I would not have used the same language.

I think she really created her own mess, though I never watched the show, just saw the clips on the news on web.

I still have nightmares about the time she got into her upside down swing to demonstrate how she relieves stress. Seeing her in that position made me realize what starring into the depths of Hell would be like.

She's the Phil Donahue of womens inane chat. After the Donald Trump spat, it just seemed like Fox News was giving Rosie exactly what she wanted, more press, more exposure. We all know how nutty this woman is, but giving a daily run-down of her foolish diatribes just provoked more out of her. Like Cfalk said, she isn't gone for good. She'll be back, probably with a show airing out San Francisco or something, parading mayor Gavin Newsome around.

Well that's a relief. I'm fairly certain the View is on 24/7 in Hell, so it'll be a tiny bit more palatable now if I end up there. Unless they replace her with Danny Bonaduce.

Rosie's contract was apparently going to run out in June, when she will leave the View. There is no doubt that sometimes, perhaps too often, she is a 1st class jerk. Her comments at a recent dinner were not well liked and were quite inappropiate. I wonder if ABC intentionally took a hard line on a longer contract hoping she would reject it and go away. It is a good way to get out of what has become a potential liability. I do hope they choose someone who is a politically moderate, normal and decent looking woman. Mmmmmm, maybe Katie Couric?

I wonder how this will affect the ratings, which have increased due to Rosie?

It sounds like she isn't leaving for good. She will be back to talk about "issues" that are dear to her, but her full-time gig is over.

I honestly don't think we're getting the full story on this, either.

Rosie has an ego that's too big to share a stage with. My guess is that ABC low balled the one year contract knowing full well she wouldn't accept it. My guess is also that Barbra Walters, for all her public show of support during the Trump fight, is probably breathing a sigh of relief but will never publicly admit that. Put Rosie's inevitable new talk show, along with Springer, Maury, Montel, and all the other idiotic yak-fests on a new cable channel. Call it "The Dysfunction Channel"; all the trash on a single channel. Then, block that channel on your TVs.

Doing this may make it possible for the human race to raise its collective IQ, and maybe even save ourselves from extinction...

Food for thought -

Someone needs to replace Don Imus. And you can get into a lot more bantering on the radio.

No. Ratings are up ... on a rough estimate average of 18% nationwide. Which is a good precursor to ABC's mid day news casts around the country in many markets. Ratings for those newscasts have jumped as much as -that- 18% in some cases.

I think Gavin might be right, Rosie is good friends with Martha Stewart who has her own show on satellite radio. Also with radio she could even have a studio set up at her house making this gig even more attractive. Also she would have the flexibility to do other things, i.e. guest host the View.

So The View has two spots to fill now, doesn't it? IIRC, Rosie replaced Meredith Vieira when she went to the Today Show, and the spot vacated by Star Jones has never been filled.

Hmm, perhaps Alec Baldwin for one of the spots?  scratchchin

At least when she was on The View most of us were at work/school and didn't have to actually sit and watch it.

Ann KKK Coulter has been relatively quiet lately.

They should fire that boring Hasselcrack woman and bring in crazy Annie.

And instead of Rosie, they should bring in Fantasia.

I bet Fantasia is as dumb as a rock, but I also bet she could out-scream crazy Annie all the way back into her lair.
