"Bankrobber" Nearly Shot By Snipers.

Tue May 08, 2007 12:41 am

Vinod Shah was playing the role of a bank-robber, during the filming of a movie in Bergen, Norway this afternoon. While standing in the bank, Vinod Shah suddenly noticed something which wasn't in the script: He had 3 red dots on his upper body... aka laser.

Because during the filming, someone alerted the police, who were quick on the scene. 3 snipers got into position and had a clear view of one of the alleged bank-robbers. But after a short while, they noticed the camera equipment in the bank, and the situation came under control. A spokeswoman for the police says that they have certain procedures during filming of scenes involving crime, but that a glitch had occurred during todays event.

Vinod Shah, the actor said "I could have been killed.."

I'm calling  redflag  on this one.

Real snipers don't use projection laser aiming devices like you see in the movies.

Some countersnipers may use lasers at very close range, but they are too unreliable for use at anything more than 3 meters or so for the precision shooting required of snipers. Now...it may have been that some swat unit had their guys train weapons on the actor and those weapons were using lasers.....

but I'm sort of with MD on this one...I call BS until someone proves otherwise.

I don't know exactly what equipment Norwegian police use for this kind of sniper mission, but what I posted in the thread-starter is what was written in the article. In fact the detail of three laser dots occurs in 3 separate news articles that I've found...

I second your call of BS. If you have ever been to a move shoot you can't help but notice the movie equipment. From cameras, light reflectors, sound equipment, hundreds of wires, extras standing around, dollies, scaffolding, and on and on. With all this crap around you can spot a movie shoot from miles away. Total BS

That's part of the problem.

Three snipers, three laser dots... which on is yours?

I only ever see lasers used by the shield man.

Just saw it mentioned on the news. The actor in question again explained to the reporter how he suddenly noticed 3 laser dots on him.

Is there a difference between a sniper and a sharp shooter? I now realise the correct translation would have been sharp shooter. (If they unlike the snipers use lasers on their rifles, that should explain everything..)

They were filming a scene for a movie, and the cops thought it was a real bank robbery. They realised it wans't when they noticed the camera equipments... what's not to believe? ?

Short snippet of video released by a Bergen newspaper (BT) http://www.bt.no/webtv/index.jsp?fil...no/multimedia/tvh/tvh.asx?pid=4358

From another Bergen newspaper, Bergens Avisen (BA):

It was around 4PM that the police was informed there appeared to be armed men inside the DNB Nor bank in downtown Bergen. The police responded by sending armoured cars and an armed special police unit. When the police arrived on the scene, they observed people in the bank with what looked like weapons, and sealed off the are by several blocks. At 4:30PM, a person came out of the bank and tried to inform the police that it was only a filming of a scene, but the police took no chances, and entered the building with armed weapons. Inside they found a surprised film crew.

Vinad Shah was standing inside the bank wearing a ski-mask, and holding a plastic M16 rifle, when he suddenly noticed three laser dots on his upper body. "At first I thought it was a joke, but then I realised the police was outside" he says.

Brothers Davvidke and Tyggar Angel, from the USA where in charge of the filming. "We were allowed to use the premises by the bank, and were in the middle of shooting a bank-robbery scene, when the police arrived." The brothers thought the bank had notified the police about the scene, but it turned out nobody did.

Out here in BOM too.Because of the Population & crowd control being difficut.sometimes gun chase scenes are shot live in the streets with Cameras mounted on High rises. If the Actors are new & not recognisable. The crowd can get involved in catching the Bad guy.
Humourous at times.

Latest: The police are considering taking the bank in question to court, as they didn't notify the police. The bank has apologised, and are checking to see why the police wasn't notified.

To all of you you are calling the laser bit bs, the statement made by the actor who says he saw 3 laser dots on his upper body (as told to several media sources throughout the day) isn't evidence enough for you? What will it take to convince you then?  Confused  Smile

OK I am willing to suspend my disbelief. It is possible that the move was so low budget that they only used a few hand held cameras and nothing else that would be an obvious indication of a movie taking place.

To me it sounds like over dramatization.

Just saying, real world snipers don't use lasers.

Again, I must ask if there is a difference between a sniper and a sharpshooter, as I should have written sharpshooter in the thread starter.

From what I understand from reading a couple of articles, the sharp shooters were located in the building opposite the bank.

It was neither snipers or sharpshooters (they are the same thing) as neither would use targeting lasers. Targeting lasers are only useful for quick reaction short distance shooting when you do not have time to take proper aim.

From the quoted article:

It was SWAT personnel that entered the building and were probably using M-16 or similar type assault weapons with laser pointers. They were probably only a few feet away from the actor.

The actor is being overly dramatic (but isn't that to be expected from an actor?).
