Geico Caveman TV Show May Be A Go....

Mon May 14, 2007 7:45 am

It's A Modern Stone Age Atlanta....

ABC announces their Fall Schedule on Tuesday and The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that they have given a series order for a sitcom based on the cavemen in the GEICO commercials. The kicker is that these cavemen don't live in New York City, Chicago, San Franciso, or even L.A.; they live in Atlanta. I guess they decided to set it in the South because of the image of the South being "backwards".

If this rumor is true, I hope the show bombs and gets canceled in less than 4 episodes.

You're kidding me. What a ridiculous idea. The commercials are awful & it's bad enough that they won't go away.

So they're going to have, in the middle of a world of normal people...cavemen?

That's generous...I hope it never even gets off the ground.

They let great shows get the ax like "Arrested Development" (I'm still peeved over that cancellation) but let some pretty shoddy programing stay put (I'm talking to you CBS). It's pretty sad when you develop a TV show off of an ad campaign, an ad campaign that's already started to wane.

Much as I like the GEICO Caveman commercials....

The Caveman TV show has already been done... And it didn't work in the 60s either....

Further proving that all of the ideas for TV shows have been done. Makes you wonder what recycled ideas are on the horizon or never got green lighted.

"It's About Time" was from the same people that did "Gilligans Island" and it followed the same formula. They probably could have changed some names in a Gilligan script and used it for It's About Time. Few remember It's About Time and those that do only remember it for the theme song, probably explains why they are considering doing another caveman show. Nobody would do another sitcom about castaways on a island....

but were caveman "iconic" as such then? no.

it's just a tv show. don't watch it if you don't want to.

it is nice to see something different on the air, outside of another reality show or a cop drama.

posting from my view of the Star Trek Experience I must point out that assimilation necessarily means de-humanization!

The Flintstones was a modern day version of the Honeymooners and intended for adults. The ideas may be similar in some ways....it depends on how the deal is written and we don't know about that.

The people who are quick to dismiss this idea are doing so based on preconceived notions.

This looks even better:

Here's something else. You should use an uppercase "S" when referring to ppl living in the South. A lowercase "s" in south should refer to direction.

More examples:

Airline flight 5 had to divert south to avoid turbulence.

No. "In" is correct. Considering I haven't gone "to" all the states, but merely traveled through some of them, "in" would be the correct word.

If driving down the East Coast to Atlanta, for example, one wouldn't say "I was to South Carolina on my way to Georgia" or "I stopped to get gas to South Carolina..."

BTW, your statement should read "'To' should probably be substituted..."

Wow. Where do you come up with this stuff?? You are sodomizing English worse than y'all sodomize your sisters. They might talk like that on Blue Collar TV, but in the real world it's quite different. "Which" in that sentence is absolutely incorrect, no matter how you look at it. And you forgot the comma preceding "which".

So let's look at it again:

Correct:
alabama, kentucky and tennessee, which are all considered southern states, are rife with pig-farming teef-strawing Uncle Jesse wannabees who lost their lower lips to the Cope long ago.

No. "In" is correct. Considering I haven't gone "to" all the states, but merely travelled through some of them, "in" would be the correct word.

So you haven't "gone "to"" all the states? You've gone "in" all the states? Nice. "I've been to all the states." is the proper way to say it.

Quoting WellHung (Reply 33):

Starting a sentence with "And" is synonymous with using "ain't". Using a comma before "which" is unnecessary.

Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee should be written/typed with uppercase letters because they are proper nouns. Southern States should also be written/typed with upper case letters. You also started a sentence with a lowercase letter which is incorrect.

Quoting WellHung (Reply 33):
Quoting NWOrientDC10 (Reply 32):

That's only if you respect them. Nevertheless, the south doesn't refer to the people, but the geographical area. Someone who moves to the south doesn't move to people, rather they move to an area. southerners are people who live in said area.

Wrong! You can't use lowercase letters when using proper nouns just because it suits you. If your name is Dick, for example, I can not refer to you as "dick" (with a small "d") just because that's what I want to do. I have to refer to you as "Dick" ( with a capital "D") because it's correct.

The South does refer to the people when using that term regarding the population. Southerners should be written/typed with an uppercase "S" for two reasons this time. It's a proper noun and you used it to start a sentence.

Quoting WellHung (Reply 33):
Nothing like a good ol boy trying to correct someone, but falling flat on his pitchfork and perpetuating the stereotype. But I guess if everyone around me talked like they had marbles in their mouth, I wouldn't know "which" from "that" and so on. Maybe it's time to turn off the nascar reruns, un unhook your overalls, lay down that bottle of Beam and realize you won't rise again.

Nice try. First of all, it's not "ol" it's ol' because you left the d out of old.

Before you make a fool of yourself again, there's something you should know about me. Your reference to me as "a good ol boy" is a bit incorrect. I moved here to Alabama from Pennsylvania three years ago. I even made a hint to that towards the end of my first post in this topic. As for me "talking like I have marbles in my mouth", I do have a bit of an accent - a Northeast accent (so I'm told). It's always a good idea to do at least some research before making assumptions about people and places. I also have a bit of a Northeast attitude. You may want to remember that the next time you get on a high horse and put people down. Then again, your immature and ignorant replies could be expected from a guy who lives in Hollyweird and and refers to himself as "WellHung"  sarcastic . If "WellHung" also doubles as a reference to a certain part of your anatomy, here's a news flash - nobody cares.

While I'm at it, you referred to the South as being backwards. Well, the world outside of the South is becoming more hostile and uncivil. People here are still friendly and kind. I guess in that regard, one could say the South is backwards.

Something else, I took the liberty of correcting some of the spelling and grammatical mistakes you made. You may want to edit your last post so you at least look as intelligent as you're trying to sound. That spell check feature does wonders.

You have a nice day  Wink

So you haven't "gone "to"" all the states? You've gone "in" all the states? Nice. "I've been to all the states." is the proper way to say it.

So right now - you aren't 'in' Alabama, you are 'to' Alabama?

Quoting NWOrientDC10 (Reply 36):
Starting a sentence with "And" is synonymous with using "ain't".

http://editingpublishing.suite101.co...m/can_i_start_a_sentence_with_and_
If you're anything like me, for years and years you avoided using "but," "and," or "yet" to start a sentence. This often resulted in run-on sentences or short, choppy ones. The good news is that the rules are changing and it is now considered acceptable to start a sentence with a conjunction.

http://www.grammar-monster.com/lessons/conjunctions_lessons.htm
Whilst it is acceptable to use "And" or "But" to start a sentence, this practice should be limited and only used for effect and impact.

http://www.writing911.com/database/i...ven-Outdated-Rules-of-Grammar.html
Starting a sentence with a conjunction can help transition from one idea to another or add a dramatic tone to a passage. If you start sentences this way too often, your paragraphs will sound like one long run-on sentence. Use conjunctions at the start of sentences judiciously.

Yeah - makes sense.

Actually, it does make sense.

Sure, if you mean you've been to/in EVERY state and the act of you being in every state could be considered 'the south'.

There were also links showing you that you were wrong. Don't forget those. But it's really the only appropriate response to a post where you claim to be such a macho, rough and tumble Pennsylvania woodsman who has an 'attitude'. Lemme guess - you wear Aqua Velva, too.

Damn, you Alabama boys all think alike... but we all know that Forrest Gump, the smartest southerner to ever live, came up with that phrase. A period at the end would be nice, though.

Memo to the South. Stop while you are behind. Hung is killing you and after his last blast...go ahead and have Appomatix Court House II and let it go.

Please explain further. I'm a bit slow, I guess. The boxing clip was a nice touch. It's interesting how one can not prove a point without making some kind of reference to violence.

Just out of curiosity, what's it like to be really stupid? You're in the 26-35 age bracket yet you act as though you have alot of adolescence. If this topic allows you to blow off steam then so be it. Since you're on a tear about Alabama, I'll have you know that Wernher Von Braun settled here - in Alabama. BTW, Wernher Von Braun is also the father of American rocket science.

I know you live in Hollyweird and all, this would explain why you are the way you are. I lived in L.A. County for five years; 1984-1989. I think you should go to a museum and expand your mind. You, Sir, are in need of education. Here's a link:

http://www.nortonsimon.org/

I was last there in late 1987. You should go there, sometime. Viewing art is a good thing.
