East Coast Roadtrip!

Thu May 17, 2007 10:18 am

Hey guys and gals,

Me and my buddy are doing an east coast road trip. I am flying into IAD from SAN on JetBlue (my first time, and it's a redeye flight too.) Get into IAD at 6:30am, picking my buddy up from his house, then making our way south to Virginia Beach/Norfolk for 2 nights. Also going to check out the Outer Banks, Wilmington, NC, Mrytle Beach, SC and Savannah, GA.

Does anyone have any recommendations on things to do/see out there? We are talking about stopping at South of the Border on the way back.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

South of the Border takes about an hour to see.

IMHO, no east coast trip is complete without a stop in New York City. You may want to take a swing through western Virginia through Shenendoah Valley. The scenary is nothing short of amazing.

While in the Virginia Beach area, don't miss Chix's Oyster Bar and Restaurant on Lynnhaven Bay.

If you are going to do the Outer Banks to Wilmington, then I highly recommend the Gourmet Cafe in Swansboro, NC.

Enjoy the interstates in NC once you leave Wilmington and head back north. Posted speed limit of 70, and very sparse enforcement of same.

Stop at the Udvar-Hazy Center before you leave the airport.  Smile

Was there in October. Had so much fun. Ready to go back when my buddy goes home. Free place to stay.

Very good to know. Will probably end up taking I-95 up from GA back to VA. I've never driven on the east coast so it might be driving in the slow lane. Don't know how the troopers work in those parts of the country.

Was in DC back in December. Did all the touristy stuff already.

If you can, avoid I-95 northbound in VA from Richmond to Fredericksburg on the weekends, especially Sundays. It's a miserable parking lot most of the time.

And if you take the I-295 bypass around Richmond (good idea) watch out for the State Police. Also on I-64 from Richmond to Newport News. They are very crafty on both of those stretches.

Lol, Paula Dean. She's famous in Savannah, since she has her own cooking show and her house is there and where her restaurants are.

I'm going on my own East Coast roadie next week.
Flying into EWR, meeting one of my friends, he and my brother and I driving to NC, and then flying back from CLT.

Should be an awesome time.
