New Linkin Park Album: Reviews?

Fri May 18, 2007 4:46 am

So Linkin Park's "Minutes To Midnight" has been out for a few days now.

I've heard a few of the sample clips, and to be honest, none of them really strike any chord with me whatsoever like those from the previous albums.

It's pretty sad, because I was really looking forward to their third original studio album being a big hit.

What are your thoughts?

Ha, what a coincidence, I'm listening to What I've Done right now!!

I saw on iTunes this morning that their new album was out, so I downloaded What I've Done (I like album versions, not singles:D). I like Meteora and Hybrid Theory better though. Somewhere I heard that their 3rd album was going to have a different sound to it, not like the rock in the previous two albums.

It does, and it's awful.

I got the album yesterday, expecting it to rock, and it's just average. This isn't Linkin Park, it's a sellout  Sad

Commercialised. "What I've Done" strikes me as being really "flat". Where's their typical semi-heavy rifs?

I think I'll stick to the old Linkin Park.

The new one is awful.

Yes, go back to Hybrid Theory type rock, good songs on there like "Paper Cut", "In the End", "A Place for my Head", "Points of Authority". I miss the old LP.  Sad

It's not great, but I like several of the songs on it. I'm not a metal fan, so I'm kind of glad they moved away from that somewhat.

To be fair, I've only heard the numerous singles that Linkin Park has had.

But I was listening to the radio the other day, and the DJ was talking to Chester (is that his name? the one who's not Mike Shinoda), I think, about the new album and, specifically, the new single. Chester was like "yeah, we really tried something different with this song..."

Well, I heard the song, and I'm pretty sure they released that song last year. And the year before. And probably the year before that.

Granted, I do like "Crawling." But aside from that one, I seriously cannot tell which song I'm listening to when they come on the radio.

On a better note, I did pick up the new Rush album yesterday  Smile
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

I just dowloaded Minutes from Midnight from iTunes. While it is different from anything that Linkin Park has put out before I do like most of the songs on it. I think the album will grow on me.

I think their time has passed with the whole metal/rap/whatever genre and they were trying to reinvent themselves but failed and slunk back to their old ways on many songs. I listened to an interview with Mike Shinoda the other on the radio while in Boston and he is quite the verbose guy. He spins a great yarn but never has a point to his story.

Is that the one where he screams on and on about wanting to be put out of his misery? If so I'll gladly take care of it for him. Screaming about how much your life sucks is so 2002. Way to keep up with the times there guys.

Well i've listen to some songs in which Chester Bennington & Julien-K have produced and it similar to this new linkin park album , so i've guess Chester have influenced the band with this.

Granted Ive never been enough of a fan to purchase an entire album of theirs, and in that vane ive only listened to what ive done from the new one (and i like it). hard to measure up to the classics like 'in the end', 'faint' and 'crawling' though...

and maybe im the only one who thinks this but i feel like theyve grown up a bit and maybe thats the reason behind the different sound...

I have to admire Linkin Park, they have never been part of any genre, they have always invented their own. With that comes a heavy burden in that, in order to please their core fan base, they are very confined in that genre. From what I've heard of their new album, they've changed their sound a bit (listening to "Shadow of the Day" now, great song), so its inevitable that they're going to get bad reviews off this album, even though from what I've heard, there are some pretty good songs on it.

"Hands held high" is a masterpiece, apart from that the album is... different! It's maybe not quiet what I expected from LP but I like it nevertheless
