Teen Charged With Burning Baby In Microwave - Sick

Fri May 18, 2007 8:17 am

Where do you sign up to castrate people like this? I get sick...

GALVESTON - A 19-year-old has been charged with injury to a child after police said his 2-month-old daughter was burned when he placed her in a microwave.
Joshua Mauldin

Joshua Mauldin of Arkansas was in the Galveston County jail early Wednesday. Mauldin, whose bond is set at $250,000, is set to go before a grand jury Wednesday.

He faces a charge of injury to a child, causing serious bodily harm. The charge carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.

According to police reports, Mauldin told investigators God ordered him to go to Galveston.

Sounds like someone with some mental health problems, not that going to help him with a defense in Texas.

That is just sick and horrible. I hope that 'boy' gets either 99 years, if not the death penalty.

Who knows? He may get a "good ol' boy" judge who'll just say "off to the electric chair with you", but I highly doubt that.

Hope the child pulls through.

Luckily, even rapists and mass murderers despise child abusers. He will not have an easy time in prison

Of course , you're assuming that he will be judged sane to stand trial?

Death penalty for the bastard. If not, then lock him up and throw away the key. That's just sickening what he did. Why would this guy burn his baby daughter on a microwave? I mean, what the hell is wrong with people these days?

He's changed his story now. On the noon news he is now saying he was "stressed" and that's why he did it. Wonder how he'll handle the "stress" of prison? The baby has had several skin grafts already and doctors aren't sure how much internal injury there has been since a microwave cooks from the inside out. Sadly, there is still a chance the baby may not survive.

Would one of the US's nuclear bombs do? They are essentially giant, exploding microwaves.  Wink

That's just horrible.  Sad 10-20 seconds would seem like an eternity. What is wrong with people in the world these days?  no

I suggest building a big microwave oven and putting him in it. See how he likes it.

Sick, sick, sick, sick. I agree with Kai on this count, why can't people like this be castrated? That poor kid. I don't have any kids, but I've grown up with younger siblings, cousins, and the like. How can a parent do this to their child? Sometimes I wonder what this world is coming to. "Got frustrated" my ass. I say lock him up for life.

That's it? It's tempting to consider that punishment for criminals like this should always be more creative than it was for the victims, but a simple, public retribution should be effected, as in, this guy should suffer capital punishment, and the public should be allowed to view it - deterrence for any other wackos (and it's called deterrence for a reason, otherwise if few to none were deterred, we wouldn't use the term).

Amen to that.

I'd say we

- don't torture him
- don't castrate him
- don't kill him
- don't microwave him

but instead give him a fair trial and issue an appropriate punishment that I'm sure the legal system provides for.

Feels weird to be in the minority with that.

I'll give it to you, that's an excellent answer, but the "appropriate punishment" to which you allude may include this . . .

How about crusifiction? Like the good ole' days of the Roman empire.

It has become rather hard for the insanity defence in the US lately. Especially in Texas.

I'm all for a public execution of that man. Humiliate and torture him as well, so he can die a slow and painful death in public.

This has been the top story on the local news for the past few days and has stirred up a lot of emotions. Shock is an overused word in our society, but this story has definitely shocked the local community. If this guy is indeed insane, which he may be, then he obviously can’t be executed and should instead be committed for a very long time. If he is competent to stand trial then execution would be a light punishment in my opinion, I would prefer he spend the rest of his days in a Texas correctional facility.
