Advice - Things To Do In Tokyo

Mon May 21, 2007 3:01 am

Hi All,

Myself, my partner and a couple of our friends are heading out to Tokyo in a week or so, and we'll be spending 5 nights there. Flights are booked (well STBY on VS...) and hotel sorted..

I'm hoping some of you guys and gals on here could provide me with some recommendations of things we should do. We already have a day trip out to Fuji booked, but as for the rest, we're open to suggestion....

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I assume this threat should be in the "Non-Aviation" part, anyway.

What are you interested in?!
For first time visitors I would recommend to put following areas into your must see list:
- Shibuya
- Shinjuku (go up to the big Twin Tower Building free of charge)
- Ginza (including Emperor Palace)
- Roppongi (in place, nightlife for locals and expats/tourists)
- Odaiba Island

If you want to head outside the city I would recommend:
1. Kamakura (Big Buddha)
2. Nikko

Since you only stay 5 days you might skip Nikko as this would be an entire daytrip. Kamakura could be a half day or you might combine it with Yokohama and do an entire day.

Enjoy Tokyo!

temples etc.

The most famous temple in Tokyo would include Asakusa

Don't miss Harajuku "fashion street" as well, and Omotesandô if you're into luxury avenues...

Hakone can make it for a day trip too, you'll get to see the Fuji San.

If you're into electronic stuff...Akihabara is the place to go !

And finally you might enjoy going to the world famouse Tsukiji fish market very early in the morning.

Of course, a quick trip to Haneda for some spotting is an idea - the 4th busiest airport in the world, with two observation decks and several interesting liveries make this a good destination for any aviation enthusiast.

Another idea is Hama Rikyu, a large Japanese garden near Shimbashi.

Unfortunately you are going to miss the May sumo tournament which ends May 27th.

Enjoy!
