Hi

Can't provide the links as these were a while ago...

I was part of the Commissioning team to open a brand new High Dependency Unit at a local Hospital and was pictured with The Duchess of York (then)

In my younger days I won many tennis tournaments and was often in the local newspapers.

Then when I got married (all of 4 yrs ago!) we had an A&E Ambulance take us from the Church to the reception. My Husband, being a Paramedic, organised it. We were in all the local press as it was a first and unusual transport for a wedding !

We went to a motor racing meeting some 25-odd years ago and because it was the last meeting before the track was closed there was a lot of coverage in the local press. We were in the pits when I saw my wife (then girlfriend) being led away by some dude with a camera, a week later she was on the front page of the newspaper's special report on the racetrack's history. I still have it somewhere.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Well done Braulio for the work you do for your district ! The articles are nice. As you know we also are doing some work around this "neighbourgs party day" here in my own district and Geneva newspapers will also cover the event, I hope it will be large articles as yours  Smile

And for the main topic of this thread, yes I did have my face a lot of times in the newspapers as I toured with different bands but I didn't scan any, I'm too lazy for this  Wink

"There are 18,174 railroad ties between Barnesville and Bethesda."

Many times over the years as a performer or for getting some award, but my favorite one happened by accident. As a teenager I used to walk the railroad tracks to the next town, just under 7 miles up the line, eat somewhere like DQ, then walk back home. One day I was really bored, and decided to count the railroad ties between the two towns. As I was nearing the town, the police chief there, who was a family friend, saw me on the tracks, stopped to talk for a few minutes while I told him what I was doing, then went on his way. A little later, very much to my surprise, I found him parked along the tracks by the station with a newspaper photog, who took my picture as I counted, and put it on the front page of the next issue with the above headline., followed by the story.
Those who want to do something will find a way; those who don't will find an excuse.

I love being in the newspaper. I'm a journalism student, so I had a column in my community paper while interning during HS that ran with my picture. That was fun to open the paper every week and see myself staring back.

I'm also been in Newsday, interviewed for a thanksgiving story that ran with my picture.

Hundreds of times.

Some were of me giving EMS presentations at government meetings. Some were of me teaching people about first aid, tornado and disaster preparedness, and CPR. Others were press photos taking during EMS emergency responses.

I was in the newspaper once. Back in 5th grade my school put on a space camp and I was the commander of our shuttle mission. So I had a good pic with my crew in the paper with a few words from me about what we were doing in space.

Quite a few times, starting way back in high school regarding sports, then numerous times as a CHP officer at accident scenes (paper, and tv). Once when I was about 16 was visiting my grandfather in Klamath Falls, Oregon and when to a mill for a tour, well the local paper was doing a mill tour story, presto my picture was all over the paper, and then the reported ended up doing a story on my grandfather who was a crew member on the first test flight of the 707.

I made the local newspaper cover-picture (Plano Star Courier) the main newspaper (Dallas Morning News) and a news station all in one night. It was a ground breaking meeting of street racers and the cops who chased us. It was kind of a peace offering-with no arrests, just discussion. We don't know how the press found out about it, it was only supposed to be about 10 of us and a cop (he had a huge sting op on us two weeks prior-lots of arrests).

And I made my old universities newspaper when I got mugged-because a friend of mine with similar build was brutally mugged with a baseball bat (hit on the skull) so they did a story on a rash of muggings of students

I made the local newspaper another time for football and rugby also.

A bunch of times, but my favourite one is when my and my classmates appeared in the local paper of Gujo Hachiman, a small mountain town in Japan. We were doing a weekend homestay as a part of our Japanese summer course, and were doing a bunch of traditional activities, meditation (where a monk pummeled me with a stick for slouching), tea-ceremony and calligraphy. A journalist followed us around, asking questions and snapping pictures, and there I was, front-page of the Sunday issue. They got my name wrong, since I have a non-hyphenated double last name; Mats Wiberg Doona, it turned out Donna Mats-Wiberg. Or Doona Matsu-Waiberugo, as it was pronounced in Japanese.

Cheers

With very few exceptions, my "newspaper experiences" have been factually devoid gossip being spread by the local 2-bit tabloid rags here. I don't save clippings.

I did get a rather nice article a few years ago when I went home to India to vote in the elections there and got featured by a few media outlets.

I even have a stalker who saw a TV interview I did last year and managed to get my phone number from one of my airport staff! She calls every few weeks but I have so far managed to avoid a meeting.

When I was 3 years old my grandparents took me to YVR to welcome the B.C Lions back after losing the grey cup (Canadian Football League). As I was getting an autograph by superstar Matt Dunigan, there was a photographer from the Vancouver Province newspaper and he took a picture of the two of us. The next day my father gets the paper and by the beard of Zues I was on the front page of a paper that distributes around a few hundred thousand copies.

Also many many times for Lacrosse and Ice hockey I've had my name, pictures and everything in different newspapers.

Back in 1986 as a member of the engineering branch of the German civil defense I was in charge of the technical side of the demolition by explosives of the old AFN transmission mast in Berlin. Since it was a fairly spectacular event, lots of press was around including TV. I appeared in several newspapers and the evening news.

Let's see -- more than 40 years writing a wide variety of articles/columns from sports to politics to business in half a dozen major dailies in North America, plus magazines. I'd say close to 5,000 bylines by a rough count. Byline euphoria disappears quickly, unfortunately, and the byline on the payroll cheque becomes the most cherished; well, not entirely -- it's still a rush when you get a good story that no one else has and they splash it on the front page. That's still worth more than the money.

I was in the paper once. In New Ulm, all the area high schools put the senior pictures of the graduates in the paper and stated what their plans were after high school. No link as this is the New Ulm Journal and their website bites and this was too long ago for them to pull it back up... other than that, I have never been in the paper.

I've been in the newpapers several times and mentioned on CNN.

My family is actively involved with politics and has been for years. Back in 1990/91 there was a race for the Oklahoma State governor. My family's business relies heavily on politics and funding. We were supporting the democratic candidate, David Walters. In the US, the legal limit to donate on a governor's campaign is $5,000 per person. So at the advice of the David Walter's campaign manager, my family (dad and grandfather) gave cash gives in the form of cashier's checks to other parties with the spoken agreement that they would then donate their $5,000 to the campaign for Walters. In return, legislation was supposed to pass that gave our industry favorable attention and funds.

Well, Mid-campaign, Walters fired his campaign manager and he came out with the story to the press after he was voted into office. The press had a field day with it for about 6 months. We were investigated by the FBI, and the press camped out across the street from out front lawn hoping to get some shots of us coming out of our house. Reporters from all over the US were calling, so we ended up changing our phone number, but the story was there. When driving out of the garage and onto the street we put up towels in the windows of my parent's cars so they could not get pictures. My dad and grandfather and the recepiants of the cashier's checks were all called before a grand jury. My dad got off with a misdemeanor and the Walters campaign had to return the money.

However, during the entire deal, we were on CNN, ABC, NBC, and other news affilates, and constantly in the Daily Oklahoman and surrounding area newspapers. I was in the 4th grade at the time and wasn't allowed to go out on recess with the other kids because the press set up camp at my school for a few weeks.

After all that was over, I was in the newspaper several times for my Horse Showing wins, particularly my first world championship win and I was on the cover for winning the Equitation Challenge Cup when I was 14.

Other than that, I had one interview for an exchange trip to Japan that was in the papers, and I have written quite a bit of press releases for certain events that my PR company was working on.

Since hen, I avoid the press with religious fervor. I've been quoted a few times since becoming a working adult, and every single time the reporter has gotten the story wrong. They can't seem to get the simplest detail right, like the night we had a collision on the Mississippi river when I was a VTS watchstander. Idiot reporter totally botched the facts I gave him.

Picture of me with another person at least twice...once back in 1980 or so in St Petersburg Times, and other time last year in local weekly paper on Cape Cod...both times it was due to my height (6'-9") and the lack of height of the other person...

Also had my name in same weekly paper a total of four times last summer, and two of those times included a quote of mine on front page.

A few times, with pictures as well.

I used to be part of the SLTG (Sleaford Little Theatre Group)
I started off as the sound man, and went to acting so would be in the write ups.
Got a great write up for my music in Hound of the Baskervilles and a nice picture as well,

All the stage pics would also for about 5 weeks be displayed in the window of the public library
Where does the time go???

Back in the early 80s. Left work sick to stand in line for Rolling Stones tickets. Next days paper ran a feature about their upcoming concert, and ran many photos of people standing in line all over town at the ticket outlets - including a perfect picture of me.... Fortunately, my boss at the time was a big Stones fan, and thought it was funny as hell rather than firing me for leaving sick.  Silly

Myself and my wife made front page of the Nottingham Evening Post in 2002 as we had an electricity bill from nPower for £3500 that wasn't ours and we were on a card meter!

I still remember the headline "ELECTRIC SHOCK" - and a photo of a very stern me and Mrs G holding the electricity bill in question!  Wink

Bugger me within 2 days the company had sorted it all out!

Made it in one bicycle race photo with several other riders. My proudest media moment was when I was featured on a local TV sports segment for cycling just prior to The Tour. They wanted to feature a local cyclist aspiring to be a professional. Didn't quite make it, but have a lot a great memories and the segment saved on DVD.

Ahhhh.... my brief moment of fame.

Heaps of times, first time when I was 11 and won a fishing match and at random times since then, most recent time was 2 weeks ago in Fiji with regular appearances in papers and on TV in NZ over the last 4 years.

I had a triple play at second base , and went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's in a high-school baseball playoff game . Had a small picture and wright up in the sports section. Once did a interview with a reporter doing a "young small business owners" story . The piece was published but I did not make the cut ,, my story did not make it. Guess I will wait until they do a "old guy who cant get a real job" story.
You dig the hole .. I fill the hole . 100% employment !

Quoting RootsAir (Thread starter):
I wonder how many of you guys have actually had a picture of you in the newspaper! By that I mean either on a group photo or one where you are a lone, not one where you are in a crowd.

Way to go!

I was a high school and college star athlete, and my picture was in the paper a few times. Another time I had my pic in the paper as a Chef, and I have appeared in a couple tv commercials. That is enough fame for me.

I have had a picture in the newspaper only once

It was a cricket tour to Australia, where they had an article for the touring squad (our group) vs their local group. It had lots if factual errors such as it stated that we tour Australia once every 8 years, but we actually tour every year.

Last week I was in the Staines Informer (proud, proud moment  Wink ), as our uni is advertising Volunteering Week next week. They put my picture up after one they took of me last year.

Have appeared on BBC1, and appeared in newspapers with regards to previous volunteering. When I was about 7 my dad was interviewed by a paper after coming back from a mission to Kosovo, they included a picture of me and my dad.
