What Kind Of Music Do You Listen To?

Mon May 28, 2007 5:14 am

I listen to a lot of rock and metal from bands like Metallica and Slipknot. However lately I've been listening to a lot of trance and I am really starting to enjoy it, maybe even more then metal. My favorite's are the Paul Oakenfold from his '99 Essential Mix, and a few of the newer DJ Tiesto stuff.

I like rock, alternative, metal, and stuff like that. As my signature says, my favorite bands are Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Panic! At The Disco, and Gym Class Heroes. Sometimes I like hip-hop/rap if it's a really good song, but otherwise not.

Depends on my mood.

Everything from "Classical", Beethoven, Moussorgsky, Bruckner, Hanson . . . to Boston, Styx, Journey, Rush when I want some "Driving Music", . . . Abba, Air Supply, Narada if I want to relax . . . rarely anything Country.

Never ever to Rap Noise. Ever.

No opera either.

Jan Delay is my favourite musician at the moment, no matter if his solo projects or the "Absolute Beginner" stuff, everything sounds just great! Feel free to listen the the song "Hammerhart" from the Beginners in my A.net profile.

Runs the gambit from Classical to Classic Rock, Reggae to Ragtime. Save for Country-Western (yeah I know I live in Texas, but I still despise Country-Western) Gangsta Rap, 70s Disco and 'Europop', I am open to pretty much most musical forms. I am particularly fond of musical from the Andean nations as well as India (I have a number of Ravi Shankar CDs and MP3 files), the Middle East (especially Turkey). While I can't understand what is being sung, the musical form is really catching. Having traveled through out West Africa,I really got into Hi-life in the 80s.

From classical, such as Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, to Jazz, World Music (i.e. some Hawaiian music from groups like Kohala), and some New-Age. Also, I can throw in some Alternative Rock. But never whiny "pop" music, hip-hop, R&B or,

I'll listen to most anything depending on mood, surroundings, etc.

If I have a choice, I'll listen to older music - A quick glance at the stack of CD's in the corner includes: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Rush, Judas Priest, Nazareth, Ramones, Grateful Dead, Bad Company, Robin Trower, The Who, Yes, Queen, Ted Nugent, Scorpions, and The Alan Parsons Project, to name a few...

A weird mix for me-

Depending on the way the wind blows, I'll listen to either classical (mostly organ & JS Bach), film music (Star Wars, LOTR, Gattaca etc.) or rap.
Nothing really violent though. It has to be a piece of art, not something made in 5 mins just for  dollarsign   dollarsign .

@ ANC and anyone else who dislikes rap: have you ever listened to French rap? Slightly different from "traditional" rap, and some songs are just poetry on a soundtrack. Try this: (never mind the vid though)

I love all of the classic rock from:
Boston, Toto, Kansas, Chicago, Journey, CCR, Bon Jovi, the Eagles, etc

I also listen to some more modern and alternative rock from:
Augustana, The All-American Rejects, Matchbox 20, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 3 Doors Down, and maybe a little Nickleback.

If I want to relax I have plenty of Peter Cetera and Elton John.

Mostly alternative. Sometimes classic rock, but that stuff is so damned monotonous. It's like watching an episode of M*A*S*H for the 1000th time. BORING!  indifferent

And never, never, never any of that suicide-inducing country bullshit. Fucking yeehaw yahoos.  irked

Serious classical fan here... Beethoven, Borodin, Brahms, Elgar, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky - also Italian opera - Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti.

The opposite end of the spectrum - World Beats, Latin/Caribbean: Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Sean Paul, Sergio Mendes, Papa Wemba, Jocelyne Berouard, Kassav.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

Yes! I LOVE Beethoven.  Wink I'm learning his 3rd piano concerto right now. You should listen to it if you haven't.

Other than classical, I like a very specific couple of artists that don't really fall into a genre: Sufjan Stevens, Damien Rice, Imogen Heap, Sigur Rós, Muse, Andreas Johnson, Arcade Fire, Keane, Sparklehorse, The Decemberists, etc...

And when I'm in a very weird mood, I admit, I listen to rap. As loud as it goes. But you'll never catch me listening to country.

Music is such a neat thing. It can tell you so much about someone's personality. I just love it.  Smile

I'm into a little bit of everything. Country (Dierks Bentley, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban), Rock (Fall Out Boy, The Fray, Mat Kearney, Dave Matthews Band); Rap/Hip Hop (Jay-Z, T.I., Kanye West). And I like a little spanish music (Buena Vista Social Club) to remind me of my heritage everyonce and a while.
