50 Mph Wheelchair Ride

Sat Jun 09, 2007 12:45 am

Paw Paw - He was stuck to the front of a semi, going down the road at 50 miles an hour. Now, he's talking about his unbelievable ride.

It all happened in Van Buren County Wednesday afternoon. The man, who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy was visiting Paw Paw when his wheelchair was hit by the semi.

Investigators say the semi truck owned by RMI had pulled out of a local gas station. The young man in the wheelchair some how pulled in front of the semi-truck, causing his wheelchair handles to become stuck in the front grill of the truck.

WOW!  Wow!

This is an amazing story!
Glad the guy was not hurt at all. Can you just imagine what was going through this guys mind at that time?
Just one large enough pothole could have caused his wheels to get caught and tore up his chair causing him to get pulled under the semi.

I liked the guys T-shirt. I've been looking for a 'Im a Pepper' T-shirt.

It ended good, so it's hilarious. Of course, had something happened, it would have been tragic.

We ran this story yesterday in the news, but seeing these pictures makes it all the more "better."

One thing you notice about the pictures, though, is that the guy obviously didn't soil himself from down there or up there. That in and of itself is quite impressive, really. He probably remained a lot more calm than many others would have.

I bet a certain trucking company will be buying someone a new wheel chair. Check out the wheels in the one photo. They must have been smoking the whole way. They guy himself doesn't seem to be that upset.

Especially more calm than 911 call number 3. Damn she was hysteric. Then you had the very calm call number 4  Smile

I would never want to be a 911 operator. Didn't the 4th sound like a kid?

One thing that disturbs me is this. It looks like they held this news story, called in reporters and photographers with this poor guy still attached to the semi.

If you watch the video clip, you'll see the parents say that all they want are new tires   Guess they weren't rated for 50 mph  Silly

Could be bystanders taking photos (or the state patrol it sounded like). Notice how there is no video, only still pictures.

Running lights and sirens and flashing their press id at the cops?

I still simply cannot believe he survived this. That trucker will now ALWAYS have the best story at the truckstops.

Ok now beginning to believe what you were saying about some of these semi truck drivers a few weeks ago. Big grin

Just imagine passing up a big rig on the highway and then looking in the rear-view mirror at a guy in a wheelchair wearing a 'I'm A Pepper' t-shirt.  Wow!

I noted that there were no photos in the wire stories, which was frustrating, because this nis SO hard to believe.

It was probably camara phones or people with digital camaras in shock taking pictures

You know, this is the kind of stuff you see on a movie and think 'what a bunch of crap, that could NEVER happen!

Remember OJ Simpson in the Naked Gun movies? He had more than one of those kind of experiences. Too bad he lived though....
