The Trouser Trial Has Begun

Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:05 pm

There was a thread about this subject a couple months ago but now a new thread is warranted because the trial has begun.

I hope the defendant wins. A poll on myfoxdc.com shows over 91% feel the case is not warranted.

The plantiff in this case is nothing more than a two-bit shyster lawyer turned judge who I hope gets tossed out on his ear and then disbarred for filing and following through on a frivalous lawsuit.

He is a very good example of why people hate lawyers.*

*Queue DLX and his feigned outrage over the mere suggestion that anyone hates lawyers.  Wink

I'm still baffled a judge actually let the case get to court. How assinine. Really.

I guess I'll have to start suing people, seems to be the thing to do in the U.S. I have to keep up with the Jones ya know.

Unfortunately, I my gut feeling tells me the guy will probably win. Maybe not the millions he wants but more than the pants actually cost.

I wonder how long it will be before a similiar plot shows up on the numerous law dramas on TV.

They should reimburse him the cost of pair of used pants. He doesn't have the right to anything else. I think it would be great to see his face if he gets $10.50.

Like the D.A. in the Duke Lacrosse Case?

It'll probably be one of the first cases on Boston Legal next season or maybe will be tied in with something on Law & Order (insert show name here).....

I have a feeling this case will be dismissed or he takes a settlement deal. Even though the guy is a lawyer, he's representing himself, and we all know the old saying...........

I'm seeing a combined plotline "ripped from the headlines" where the pants get lost, the lawyer sues the Korean family (or are these folks Chinese? I forget but just follow along) who have a son who goes batshit and shoots up the lawyer before going on a rampage at the local junior college but helives and they try him. His defense is he is insane because of the pants.

Sickening yes but I don't put anything past Law and Order these days after they did the takes on Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith in two episodes.

He recently dropped the amount down to $54 million from about $64m. WTF's all that about?

BTW - what a great sketch in the link - the case is about a pair of trousers, not a jacket (and the trousers have been found).

Yes but he claims the trousers weren't his.

If he wins it will set a dangerous precedent. If you entrust someone with something as frivoulous and replacable as a pair of pants and they get lost anyone can go claim $54 million. Can you imagine what would happen to an airline or cargo handling company? They would have insurance against this but the claim payouts will skyrocket. Chapter 11 here comes corporate America.
