Long Trip With Passenger/cruise Ship?

Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:31 am

Have you been a passenger on a LONG trip with a
passenger/cruise ship? Crossing the Atlantic or
other LONG routes? How was it? Boring? High waves
that made your sick... *S*

My longest was nine nights down the eastern seaboard of the USA to the Caribbean. I've always fared well on ships, and the storms didn't get to me. Although one night I was a little off, most likely from exhaustion (getting only 3-4 hours of sleep a night for a week).

Twice had 14 day trips, once in the Western Med (Spain and France) and recently (SE Asia) both trips were on 170 passenger sailing vessels. No problems what so ever.

Never been on a trip longer then 7 days but would love to take one.
As for the sea sickness, I was raised on the water so it never affected me, but people that I know who were sick and got a shot in the doctors office on the boat worked wonders for them. Personal I like it when it gets rough, more exciting that way.  Smile

The longest I have been on was 15 days, so real short. Visited the Mediterranean it was real nice though!
Keep the shinny side up!

Have a QE2 transatlantic booked for April 2008, so I'll let you know - always wanted to do it, so thought I'd better in case they retire the ship  Smile
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

Around 4 years at sea with the Canadian Navy, Destroyers & Frigates mostly a few tanker trips, doesn't really count as cruising though.

I know this is a Navy ship, but in 2004, I rode the USS Belleau Wood LHA-3 from San Diego to the Parisian Gulf with two stop in Hawaii a stop in Singapore, Bahrain and Juibi Ali, it was a good trip.

One of my aunts did Semester at Sea in 1991 as her final cruise ship hurrah before heading to Ole Miss Law School. Those 15 weeks at sea was probably her longest cruise, I think. She used to work cruise ships in the Med and out of New Orleans, and of course lived on the ships, but those were much shorter cruises. For the Semester at Sea cruise she was the director of shore excursions and when the ship was late pulling into port it played hell with the schedules.

My dad was a Merchant Marine captain in the late 70's very early 80's and he spent most of his life at sea during that time from what he tells me.

I have never been invited to dine at the captains table, unfortunately. Actually, thats okay, because I might die of humiliation because I can't understand 9/10 things the captain is saying under his heavy accent!  Wink

As a child in 1960 my family travelled from Melbourne, Australia to Southampton on the Netherlands Line MS Johan van Oldenbarnevelt returning 2 years later on the MS Oranje.
The outbound trip was via the Pacific Ocean, and Panama canal, I was only 4 at the time but I remember those little rail engine/tugs they use to move ships through the canal, we were in the dining room having breakfast and I watched them out the porthole.
I also recall our cabin flooding and the crew took my mother ashore in Bermuda to buy a new teddybear for my 2y/o sister!

Cheers
