Paris's Get Out Of Jail Party!

Sun Jun 17, 2007 1:12 am

Just watching E!, Paris dad Rick Hilton will be holding a mega get out of jail party for Paris at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The report on E! stated that the hotel will pay Paris $800,000.00 just for showing up at her own party!. I really dont think her jail term was justified, but at least she will make a pretty penny off of it!

Too bad that she and her family are so foolish to have such a party. She is in jail for breaking the law of the court, for failing to appera on a DWI charge. I would prefer that the money for the party be a donation to the local legal aid funds to help indigent prisoners or to MADD.

So you think a celebrity is above the law? Please explain further. Any 'normal' citizen would have been locked up the first time for the full sentence.

This party will only further make a mockery of the justice system. She will go to this party, get wasted, and drive home. Repeat each night for the rest of her life.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think most people would have actually had to serve much less of that 45 day sentence, due to overcrowding in jails. I remember hearing the Sheriff say something along the lines of a normal person would have been out in a week, but the fear of the backlash of releasing someone like her out after such a short time is what's keeping her in. People always cry "celebrities aren't above the law", when normal people get out early too.

Exactly, and theres no point fining her as her family has god knows how much money, as her dad is showing by throwing this party so the only way to really punish her is throwing her in the slammer for a few weeks.

All other implications aside, if my parents had the opportunity to toss a party for me where I stood to earn $800,000 simply for appearing, I'm sure they'd be flipping through the Yellow Pages to find a caterer without too much hesitation. After all, it would take place once I had paid my debt to society, not before.

Fair point, and undoubtedly your parents are/were honourable people.

However, this stunt does reek of shameless attention seeking.

Oh yes, of course, but it's almost equivalent to a debutante ball in my mind. There's obviously an interest in her--even those who say they can't stand her, hang onto her every move, so why pass up on cashing in on it?

You seem to be forgetting that it wasn't her first brush with the law.

Quote:
n September 2006, Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content of 0.08%, the minimum at which it is illegal to drive in California. Hilton's drivers license was subsequently suspended in November 2006,[36] and in January 2007 she pled no contest to the alcohol-related reckless driving charge.[37] Her punishment was 36 months' probation and fines of about $1,500.[38]

On January 15, 2007, Hilton was pulled over for driving with a suspended license and signed a document acknowledging that she was not permitted to drive. [39] On February 27, 2007 Hilton was caught driving 70 MPH in a 35 MPH zone, again with a suspended license. She also did not have her headlights on even though it was after dark. Prosecutors in the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney charged that those actions, along with the failure to enroll in a court-ordered alcohol education program constituted a violation of the terms of her probation.

I'm not offended at all by the party. She will have served her sentence, and isn't obliged to live like a monk. If her parents want to spend the money, they have every right to do so.

And if I were an LA prosecutor, I'd be overjoyed, for if Ms. Hilton ever shows up in court in the near future, this will be dynamite evidence of the lack of Ms. Hilton's recognition that her behavior isn't publicly acceptable - outside of the Hollywood crowd, of course.  biggrin

Having lived for 10 years just blocks away from where this incident took place, this is the part of the whole story which doesn't make much sense to me. Except in the very wee hours of the morning, when the record store Paris was coming home from isn't open, I don't know of any time I could have driven on Sunset Blvd. between Crescent Heights and Kings Rd. at 70MPH.

somehow no one ever seems to realize that there are countless different ways of driving after drinking alcoholic beverages...and obviously most of them do not end in MURDER

i would venture to guess that almost anyone (at least that i know...not paris hilton per say) pays extreme attention to all traffic laws when they are driving after consuming said beverages...its the idiots that actually careen all over the fucking place and cant even stay on the right side of the road that should be worried about. perhaps there should be a "sober driving test" instead of the callous breathalyzer method.

This is why we are legally allowed to drive with a certain amount of alcohol in our systems and be deemed safe to do so, believe me if MADD had their way anyone with a drop of booze in their system would be in the big house. As for idiot drivers I think talking on cell phones, eating and applying makeup in a car are all just as bad as drinking. However drinking and driving is one of the biggest causes of traffic deaths and the amount of people being caught has been increasing. What makes this ironic is that these celebrities are rich and don't need to drive themselves anywhere so why do they get into this trouble.

BTW the Breathalyzer doesn't hold up in court as consuming mouthwash will give you a false positive.

After her national 'epiphany' with Barbara Walters, I'd imagine she'd turn such a thing down since she SOUNDS like she wants to shed her former image.

Where to go to participate at the party and how to get into? I'm ready to pay up to 20,000$ to be present: I wish to have an opportunity to see Paris and talk to her.

She is unappreciated by the crowd but she is indeed very smart and beautiful, many things of her character are yet to be discovered. You simply don't understand how humble and simple she really is.

The PBT (Portable Breath Tester) is not valid in court, but does serve as PC that the person is drunk. They are taken to the station or jail (depending on the jurisdiction), where they will be given either a blood or urine test (administered at a hospital generally), or an Intoxilyzer. The intoxilyzer is like a PBT, only more accurate, and since the test sucject has been under the supervision of an officer in the time before the test, it is admissable in court. The mouth wash is only good for about five minutes.

I hate how the media outlets are paying some much attention on this BS, there is other more newsworthy stories, and its is disgusting how companies can do business with her with respect to her image, although she me be sought after my the massses. A party isnt hte right way to end the jail sentence, when she gets out she needs to apologize and truly admit the severity of her crime and make a pledge not to do something similar in the future, maybe giving some money to MADD, would be a good thing to do, judging by the fact that $800k is nothing for them.

why are some annoyed that her dad is throwing a party? they are doing that to annoy you so don't be!

in reality, her whole life was nothing but a long party, of course partly due to her parents, so she is just picking up where she left off and no it won't change because of a few days in jail. The only thing that will change is her view on the world, and that is excellent. Maybe she'll contribute to it in a more constructive way from now on.

But the party is just a way for her parents to congratulate her for the "suffering" if it's considered so... just let them be!
