Hollywood A Go Go For Me!

Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:23 pm

Hello-
Hope everyone is having a great Fathers Day!

I am currently living up in Alaska and I heard about these talent agents coming up. I have been doing theatre since 1998 (I am almost 16 years old) and I am pretty passionate about it. lately I've been landing lead roles in our majour performing arts center "Alaska Center for the Performing Arts" It is one of the biggest theatre facilities in America! So when I heard about this "Best New Talent Awards" coming up here I decided that I would go to the auditions for the experience. Well the first auditions were Yesterday (Saturday) and I did a dramatic acting piece. The agents loved what I did and said that I had made the call backs set for Sunday (Today). They also asked me to stand up and sing a song because I use to do heaps of musicals. in the end I sang part of Greased Lightning and they liked that then they told me that I had the 'eyes, the bone structure and the lips to be a model."
So after the Saturday auditions I went over to a mates house and we had some other people over and we relaxed and watched movies, then we went to the park at midnight and decided that we had had to much caffeine for the day and that we should roll down the hill at the park (which is something I've never done before) so we did this and as one of the girls got up she was so dizzy that she fell over and screwed up her ankle, this resulted in me carrying her back to the house in my arms, which wasn't a short walk. In the morning I get a call from someone saying that it might be broken and that they were taking her to the hospital... well i went there and starting thinking "Crap, if this isn't quick I might miss the call backs" In the end it turned out to be a very bad sprained ankle and everything was all good. So I rushed over to the auditions and was ready to show my stuff. (I don't get nervous anymore luckily, for the most part) Instead of the one-on-one auditions like yesterday todays were set up with the rest of the people that got call backs watching as well as the head judge. When you were finished she wrote what she thought of you on a piece of paper and handed it to the other judge who took you to a boardroom and told you what was on the paper...

I MADE IT!

I guess I was the favourite for Alaska and was put on the top 100 teenage actors/models/singers/etc list in America for their award! So now the next step is going down to Hollywood in November to compete in the national finals where there will be more Judges and agents. I will be competing in Comedic acting for film, Dramatic acting for film, commercial acting, and modeling! This is a chance of a life time! and even if nothing comes of it I figure that I will learn heaps and take away great life experiences and my life will go onto the NYC Business life that I had planned, no worries. but I can only hope and practice and make the best of it!

so at the moment I am syked and cant wait!
~Cheers-

Sorry, it's actually "not the chance of a lifetime." This is just a process known as "crop farming."

If you want to get above and beyond that, you have to do something better than Greased Lighting. When dealing with a bunch of sixteen year olds, they're going to hear thousands of version of that song already. They want something above and beyond you. Nail an Ute Lemper interpreted version of Kurt Weill and you're golden.

Hey man, cool! This sounds like a lot of fun!

California will be a fun trip, to bad the Hughes Flying boat isn't in San Diego anymore as that would be a great excuse to see that city. Good luck! (Sorry to hear about plan B, being a suit in NYC.... Smile )

Damn, talk about 'living in the moment' ...a decade from now.

Congrats, but why dont you enjoy getting more caffeine overdoses, rolling down hills, breaking bones, staying up past midnight, and wooing girls with your self-proclaimed model body? You seem obsessed about whats to come. Hell, you live in Alaska and your fantasizing about living in NYC in God knows how many years?

Screw Hollywood, it isn't anything special. It's chock full of morons and Tom Cruises. What is special is the young, dumb teenage years.

P.S.- How did you come to the combination of Alaska and Qantas?  Confused

haha, well I've never planned to become a singer but I figure I might as well stand up and sing if they ask me to, even if it sucks.

I live between Alaska and New Zealand but we flying Alaska Air and Qantas down there so they have been my two favourite airlines, I use to want to fly for QF!

I figure that it will be a fun opportunity, that I'll learn things and hell who knows what will happen... but its more for the excitement and the hope of learning something!

sounds like you're well on your way to learning what it means to have a good team of lawyers that suck away anything you might ever make in this little adventure.

First congrats, and if you're going into it with that attitude, you should do well. If you want anything more from it, what a casting director looks for is someone who is "born for the role"--that's what will make you stand out from the crowd, and why it's important to have a piece to audition with in that spirit. I've seen a lot of auditions, and it's the same thing all the time--those who get the part are the ones where those doing the casting can see the person doing the role without the benefit of sets, costumes or makeup.

Thanks Aero!!

Yeah i've been doing enough acting around AK and NZ that I know that sometimes your just what the director wanted and sometimes it just doesn't work out.

I think my Dramatic piece stands out! I write all of my own stuff and in this one I'm talking about being an HIV patient because of a bloody transfusion (in real life it happened to someone in our family) and at the end I stand up and say something along the lines of "sorry, I can't do this right now, I just.." and walk to the door and go through it then come back and say "scene." Which I've never seen anyone do before so I hope that its different and stands out, it did up here!!

But for the Comedy piece Im going to get a piece from a play... If I take one from a movie everyone compares me to the original actor who did it, which is no good, and if you make your own and it tanks then it has your name all over it, so Im going to use a piece from a play or something like that (which we are allowed to do).

Any funny monologues that anyone knows of? Since I do my own dramatic pieces I'm going to have to spend some time finding a good piece for the comedy section.

I also have to write my own commercial... So Im hoping to think of some funny thing to do!!!

Thanks again mates!

From a 16 year old something from Middle-somewhere New Jersey--I think AlaskaQantas..you just hit an envy nerve among your peers--after all everyone in the Most Populous State (Calif) is dying to get to Middle-something New Jersey--eek!

Very wise advice and the the best approach possible!

It certainly is tough to ride the star wave..but as far as being a blast , that's putting it mildy, there are few better places in the US of A to live in, better yet start your life..if you can last here a year or more without succumbing to the ubiquitous trap doors of BS, deception and facades (you're surely bound to fall for a few) ..you can surely go and succeed in Podunkville, Arkansas or New Jersey. If you were headed to NYC..I'd say the exact same thing -- because no two cities can put your muster to the test like these two.

The most prized piece of advice I can give you is this..make no enemies, no matter how rude, dismissive someone maybe while jumping thru the hoops. And lastly, you don't know who's watching you, in other words, the person you may 'performing for..' may not be the person making the final decisions 'as perceived'. In many cases, some of the most powerful and influencial people, may not look like it, dress like it or may not say a word. Absorb information like a sponge and speak little of what see, hear or witness (except to the folks back home), do your thing, look, listen and learn...and have fun as Aerowesty says! The WORST thing that can happen.. is you leave with a great life experience behind you.

Ouch, seems like I hit your nerve. Hollywood has no interest for me. Waste of life there, IMHO. Envy is something my father gets from me as he makes a high seven figure salary per year, not including the record breaking bonuses his Wall Street company gave out this past Christmas. I'm perfectly fine in my upper class neighbor having mommy and daddy buy me everything I want from cars, boats, shore houses, flight time, etc. I do enjoy, though, how you pick the lowest age from the age range in the profile, ya' old kicker you.

Since you took the time you read my profile, I'm surprised you didn't see I'm a college student, obviously hinting I'm not 16. Have a brain fart there?  laughing  Apparently so! Smog getting to you? Disgusting, really.

Did you know more people move from CA to NJ than vice versa? Interesting to know! Opportunities galore here, we make much more money, have infinitely better living conditions, the safest communities around, the best education in the USA, and are located along pristine beaches and boardwalks. Not sure if you know, probably not, but LA was ranked as the most polluted city in America time and time again by the ALA. Happy your crime rate is finally lower than that of Atlanta and Chicago? Hah.Also, you must not get much news out there, back in 2001 there was a terrorist attack on the USA, 'Middle-something New Jersey' lost more residents than any other single town! I wonder why, hmm, oh yeah, we're Manhattan go'ers and we're loaded!

Our Broadway stars would laugh hysterically at that.

Time to go out clubbing on the boardwalk and breathe in that fresh, ocean, smog-free air!  Wink

Not necessarily, no.

What's Patti Cohenour doing this summer? She's preparing for a regional production of To Kill A Mockingbird. What's Karen Mason doing this summer? She's doing Gypsy in Westchester. What's Judy Kaye doing? She's doing Souvenir at a regional theater before she goes out on tour with Sweeney Todd.

Well now, we can't know for sure whether any of this is true..but whta is true by your own admission is..this make believe 'father' may or may not have achieved something in life-- but you on the other other hand have done..??? Go to a college..everyone other A.net member is doing that. AlaskaQantas is leaving 'mommy and daddy' and taking on the 'brave new world' solo...solamente! At his age that takes a mighty BIG PAIR....which mommy and daddy cannot give you-
